I made this chart back in 2008. Wheel width and backspacing is listed in inches. Offset is listed in millimeters.

Here’s how it works: If you are thinking of buying a set of wheels and the seller posts the width and offset, you can use the chart to find the backspacing to see if it will work on your car.
Example: a 8” wide wheel with 35MM offset has between 5.75” and 6” backspace.

Or, if you are in a salvage yard and measure a set of 9” wide wheels that has 6.5” of backspacing, you can use the chart to see that it has a 38MM offset.

The picture prints out okay as an 8X10 to hang in your shop or as a 3X5 pocket guide when you go shopping.

    Enjoy.

i know this is a domestic car forum, but i typically make everyone tell me measurements in offset. backspacing is a pretty dead measurement when it comes to the knowledge of vehicles unless you're one to actually go out and measure things on your own (which is pretty rare to get from most people).

either way, good chart for information about wheels if the only measurements you can find are not the ones you wanted. that way you can calculate what it actually is.

I agree that since most GP owners are not true tuners, and can pick and choose from the wheels others have already tried and tested, that the chart and the backspace measurement are pretty much useless to them.
But it was made for people like me who spend hours actually doing the grunt work to figure new things out.... I used it to figure out what 9.5 inch wide Corvette wheels would fit under the fenders of an Eldorado when using one and a quarter inch adaptors.
