I found a set of rims today at the junkyard that used to be on a 97 GT. However, they had the pontiac lettering on one of the spokes. That means they're pregens right? The similar fat 5 spokes from 97+ didn't have that lettering as far as I know. They look similar enough that I can't for sure tell the difference between them unless I see them side by side, but yeah..the lettering. If so I'm probably going to pick them up. Guy wants 100 for them and theyre in pretty good shape, probably an 8/10 after they get cleaned a bit.

    1st gen W

    lots of elbow grease.

quick tip, and old hub bearing clamped in a vice makes a great polishing station

and it works fantastic when you and your buddy take the bench mounted buffer and work that **** like pro's on a mission to aquire aluminum psychosis and injury

Don't use sandpaper! Maybe try Mother's Mag and Aluminum polish. Although not sure if it will cut through the clearcoat on those or not. The "rust" as you call it (fyi- alum. doesn't rust, lol...) is most likely brake dust and road grime. I've used Simple Green and also LA's Totally Awesome cleaner before to remove tough junk. The LA's can actually be found at the Dollar General, but works great. Used it on my engine bay as well.

It is rust... only it's a built up layer of particles from the brake rotor thats been deposited on top of the aluminum.
