I recently bought another 03 gp. I have the torque star rims and when I took the tires off the front one had a crack on the inside of the rim about an inch and a half long as most from the lip of the rim towards the middle.. Holds air and wouldn't have noticed it was there if I wasn't inspecting the rims.

On the other side it looked like the same thing happened but it was welded.

Is it safe to have it welded? How is this thing holding air with a crack in it? is it a two part rim? similar to a windshield? Thanks any info on this would be appreciated!!

download (4).jpgdownload.jpgdownload (3).jpg for some reason in the picture you can't see the crack.. it's easy to see in person.. it's a hairline type crack about an inch and a half long. I think it the previous owner tried to put jb weld on it.. most of that fell off.

You can get it rewelded and refinished.

Only thing that I worry about is if the barrel of the rim is bent.

Something had to cause the cracks. A local tire place should be able to just spin the rim on the balancer to make sure its not all bent, that way you know its still good enough to fix.

I can't really see the crack. If you go to my profile and look at a thread that I started called "cracked rim" it will give you a reference on weather it can be fixed. I took mine to a local welder that specializes in alluminum. He charged me 30 bucks and I've been driving on it for a year with no problems.

A firestone/mavis wont be able to repair them, they could just toss it on a balancer to see if its worth fixing or not.

If the barrel of the rim is bent, its shot. But if just a lip is bent or not bent and just cracked its fix-able.

You'll have to find a place near you that repairs aluminum rims. My work will send out rims or we tell customers to visit such and such place if they want them fixed.
