I just got an 07 GXP, and i am wondering if the wheels can be polished. I mean like wetsand some of the scratches out and polish them. The build sheet says that they are polished, and not chrome. Does this mean I can do that or not. Thanks.

I think there is a clear coat on the rims . You will have to remove the clear coat first to polish the look to coat them after.

You can sand that stuff off and polish them.

This is best left to the professionals.

What for? I was thinking abut maybe taking a little bit of rubbing compound to them then since they have a clear coat on them. I think one or two of the scuffs are a little deeper than just a little buff back to perfect.

taking care of polished rims is a *****.
My dad had some polished billet specialties on his T/A and Yeah!! They looked bad ass after a 4 hour polish job, but I'd be damned if I do that more then once a year.

Yea, I hear ya. I used to have some wheels with just a polished lip, and I hated even having to polish just the lip on those. I cant imagine what it would be like to have a wheel that was completely polished. Since theses wheels weren't tarnishing I figured that they were coated somehow.

Yea and the factory job blows. What you can do is demount the rims, strip the coating off, polish the hell out of the rims, and get them re powdercoated clear.

I went to one place near me and they quoted 130 per rim.... Then I told them they are polished rims. Price went up to 175 up to 230 ish.. They said that I should look and some new rims. I bought the same type of rim of ebay only 1 and I was thinking of doing one at a time.

Well I got around to "buffing" these wheels a couple weeks ago, and I am just now getting some before and after pictures up. I am super happy with how they cleaned up. I used a powerball and some buffing compound. These are two different wheels. I got after pictures of the one wheel, and then it was starting to get dark so I took a before picture of another rim. Haha. they were all in about the same condition before, and then turned out about the same afterwords.

if all you do is slop the wax on, then wipe it off youre not doing anything. you have to buff with wax or youre just putting a layer over it.

Your definition of buffing is clearly different than mine. When I say I am "buffing" I am actually using "buffing compound". Not wax that has a little bit of grit in it that says it will take out swirl marks.

all wax has a little grit, but i get what youre saying. you just have to make sure you dont use anything rough enough to mess up the clear coat.
