So, my GXP wheels are pretty scruffy looking (pics at bottom) what can I do to restore them, mainly the lighter scratches and scuffs. I do have big scuffs in one wheel that I'm pretty sure can't be helped without professional refinishing but it would be nice to clean them up a bit and get them looking nice again.

Would this work on the GXP wheels, I know they have a layer of clear over them

Here are pics, they aren't washed in these pics, even when washed though they still aren't the best.

Learn to park without grinding your rims against the sidewalk?

That will tremendously help keep them clean.

My wheels have some scuffs like yours as well. They were like that when I bought the car. I would be interested to see what results you achieve because I want to get mine cleaned up some.

That video has a huge DUH factor.....sure steel wool for road grime but not road rash.
I would say you could try steel wool for stubborn crud maybe even use like 0000 wool with some polish to try and polish up the scruffs, upkeep is key with chrome. Any kind of chrome polish works. My 04 torque stars look shiny as Fk, or at least the chrome that is left on them does.

You can try a rubbing compount to get some of the scratches/swirls out but I don't think you will have much luck, might have to do some refinishing to get that out.

I don't know why everyone keeps saying chrome these are aluminum polished with a clear coat. If you want the finish to be mirror like you'll need to sand down the imperfections then polish buff and re coat with clear

I was under the impression that the Alcoa GXP wheels were chrome plated and the GM generic Alcoa wheels were polished aluminum no?

Because if that's the case, then I would have no problem refinishing them myself but I thought they would need to be redipped in chrome to be refinished

Pretty amazing what the professional wheel refinishers can do these days. A check of before and after pic on some of the more popular sites is worth a few minutes.
