Thread: "have your lug nuts retorqued after the first 50 miles"

hello all,

I just had my tired rotated for 3rd time, and i noticed "have your lug nuts retorqued after the first 50 miles" at the bottom of the receipt.
I could not find much consistent information online.. any ideas?

I usually do it a couple times a week, but only out of loneliness or boredom, really. Anyway, I heard you can go blind doing that.

But in seriousness, it's never a bad idea to make sure all your lugnuts are secure. It's not like the monkey zipping them on your wheels got the job because of his physics degree.

common sense, basically "make sure retard that worked on your car didnt screw up"

its so that they can't get sued if your tire comes off. Usually they want you to bring it back so they can do it. I usually hit it with 100 psi in the air compressor with the impact and call it good, a lot of people way over tighten them.

Probably not, all it does is give you a pile of codes and some retard that spent four years in school has to make the connection, or spend hours chasing down a bad wire thats making your dash lights flash. One of the guys I work with literaly has a genius level IQ And holds degrees in Automotive repair and houeshold electronics, not to mention all his ASE certs.. Next time your feeling smart go try out a ASE test. You'll learn in a hurry we arn't all a bunch of retards. Jacka$$....

Obviously, some mechanics are good at what they do... some are frighteningly good, aka tell them where 1 squeak is coming from and they can tell you 5 different things wrong with your car and be right... or like you said spend hours chasing down 1 hard to diagnose issue, etc.. I think all of us here who turn wrenches as an amateur hobby can appreciate how hard it can be... but in that comment... I think it's mainly directed at the angsty, 18 year old kid waiting to graduate high school with an air gun at your local quik change place, *****ing about how unfair his parents are in between blasts of the air gun who doesnt give a crap about his job or know much about vehicles at all except wheel goes here, oil goes here.

Also, my girlfriends car went to Walmart for an oil change once... they totally and completely rounded off the head of the plug, and also ruined the threads on it... not compeltely stripped it out but just made it impossible to thread in smoothly, so they beat it back in there and epoxied all around it. Next time I went to change the oil myself and I found that... was fun to deal with.

She also got tires changed at the other walmart in town... the tire was flat before we finished the 5 minute drive home because they didnt seal it right, then when we brought it back they wanted to charge us a second time for a second tire mounting even though the tire they installed 10 minutes ago had failed already.

Maybe you do your job properly, but from what I hear and have personally seen... most dont, so screw that mess, I'll go to a garage not in a department store

Weather I put the rims on or somebody else I usual TQ them after about 50-100 miles.

i dont even retorque them, but i have my wheels on and off the car like every two weeks.

i leave it up to the gods if one of those lugs rolls off the car and sets the wheels free. oh well.
