245/45/18 is THE correct size. if you go down in tread width you go up in height and vice versa. you went down in both meaning your tires are shorter than stock. you have wheel gap, son.

I second the Falkens great tires with a reasonable price.
Thanks for all the replies guys.
I think we have some similarities here. I am a budget enthusiast and don't have much experience but I have done som research online. Here's some good info I found: General Altimax HP
Definitely going with the General Altimax HP's. Have done EXTENSIVE research on the tires listed here as well as many that aren't (mostly in the stock 225 60 16) and found that this one had better ratings than anything in its price range and is comparable to the Ultra High Perfomance model tires generally doing better in wet and winter conditions than those do! (that's kinda important to me... I'd rather be able to stay on the road in the winter than say my car can go 2mph faster around a curve.. just sayin.) But this is clearly an opnionated and polarizing topic and it definitely depends on your use. I can honestly say I came into tire reviewing completely unbiased. Of course now I'll probably be more interested in GT Altimax's in the future...

Here is my 2 cents worth, I had a 94 Cutlass coupe with Bridgestone Potenza G019( 225/60/16) absolutely loved them, great traction wet or dry great in snow, I live in Wisconsin and we do tend to get a little snow, and now I own a 06 GP GT with General Altimax Hp (225/55/17) and I wish I had the Bridgestones on this car too, The Generals are OK in the rain and snow but tend to not have the same grip on dry pavement as the Bridgestones. Both tires were reletively quiet until the miles added up then the Bridgestone were a little louder, just turn up the radio and you can't hear them. Not all that loud to start with. The Generals also squeal a little on hard cornering
When I was shopping for tires last year, I was stuck between Goodyear Eagle GT's and General... somethings. Anyway, from the Tire Rack reviews, it looked like the Generals had a 20% explosion/bubble/failure rate. Not sure if they were the Altimax's... it was whatever was comparable to the Eagle GT's.
