Depends on if it is the outer or inner tie rod. These are different. Cost different amounts, and are different to change.

Maybe call the shop back and ask them.

FWIW, cost is going to be 30-50 in parts. And a minimum of an hour labor. If you have never done it before, figure two hours.

outer tie rods are cheap and easy, inner you need a special tool to get it off, if you do inner always do the outer too since it's off

Well it could be the inner or outer tie rod. Im not sure which is more likely to go first though. When I replaced mine I just did both of them and it seems to me I found some new GM replacements on ebay for not a whole lot of money. I want to say if I spent more than $60 for both sides Id be surprised.

The tie rods (both inner and outer) connect your steering rack to your knuckle I believe it is, the part of the wheel that connects to the strut and holds the wheel bearing. Its not hard to replace but I do have a tool designed to do the work so it took no time at all.

I just called them back and they said it was the outter. I also talked to my mechanic and he told me it's 40 for the part plus labor in total it's not goin to be expensive so I was thinking if I should the inner as well any suggestions?....thanks

If it is the outer, just do the outer. No need to spend more than necessary here. And your mechanic is spot on with the tie rod price. Autozone has it for $40. Just depends on how long he thinks it should take him and what he charges for labor. It would take me about 30 minutes to change one of these. So he will probably charge you for an hours work.

But FWIW, these can be changed really easy. Couple of tools, and an hour, and you can do the work yourself.
