I have the torque star chrome wheels and I was wondering if they have a clear coat on them because I have some mothers chrome wire wheel mist and it says to not use it on a clear coat(could be just paint/ polished aluminum). By the way, has anyone used that stuff?

I have not used it, but I do not believe you can use it on our wheels because they are clear coated. You are much better off cleaning them up really well (I pull mine off from time to time and clean both sides) and then using a good wax on them.

I'm not sure if we're talking about the same wheel because I see you have an 01 but I'm talking about the ones on an 04 which at least look different and I would think they have a different finish since I don't believe they even came in chrome on your generation but I could be wrong on that to.

I almost hit my polished torque stars with a polishing compound. Lucky someone said they were clearcoated. So i cleaned them inside and out and finished with a wax.

the chrome on one of my wheels is peeling off too. Its not uncommon with the 04 chrome 5 spoke.

True, we have different model years, but they are still most likely clear coated. Even the wheels on my '89 GP were clear coated.

I am pretty sure the 04 torque stars are still chrome but they also have the clear coat.

Most newer cars are coated to make them more maintenance free.

Then how come the chrome coating is peeling away on one of my torque stars showing that nasty metal underneath?
