I like America's Tire Company. (aka Discount Tire Company in some regions)...
They match Tirerack prices, they just add ~$15-20 bucks, becuase Tirerack prices don't include shipping.

I like America's Tire Company, becuase they are extra careful with aftermarket wheels... When I brought in my 2 piece forged rims, I watched as they installed rubber feet on the machines, and they carefully used two hands to lift the wheel and place it on the machine... They put the wheels on the machines upside down, so that when they install the tires, they don't scratch the front surface of your wheels. They also carefully set the wheel on the ground....

When I brought my other car to Les Schwab, I watched in horror, as they used one hand to swing the tire on to the machine, but he missed the spindle, and put a huge gouge on the back of my alloy wheels. When they mounted the tires, the machine put a scratch around the entire circumference of the polished rims when they installed the tires. They also take the wheel off the machine, and bounce them on the ground, or let if fall on it's side, scratching your wheels as they come to rest, etc. Not to mention Les Schwab cross threaded the lugs, so when I went to remove the tire, I snapped my 2" extension bar, then I snapped 2 studs trying to remove the lugs.

Best bet seems to be to find the cheapest online price you can. Then call around locally an find the best price on mount/balance. Make sure its the whole price "out the door" when you call an doesn't come with a lot of BS Fee's tire disposal/shop materials ect.

Last time I had them mounted they were gonna charge a disposal fee until I said i would take the old ones then they waived it an still took the old tires... Not sure why but hey.

There is no one answer here. depends on what you want. If you want performance you are gonna pay. I have had a lot of different brands and I have found goodyear to be the best as far as performance. I started with eagle GTs, then went to GAs, then to Ultra HPs. Now I have Eagle F1 GSD3 and they are phenominal for handling. Extremely good in wet conditions too. I got mine at Discount Tire and they will price match anyone around. Shop for the best price and take it to Discount tire and they'll take care of you. When I lived in NY an actual Goodyear tire shop meet and beat a price on ultra HPs for me.

I was thinking about buying tires online but then you have to factor in the mount and balance. also if you buy tires from a local tire shop you get free tire rotations every 6k miles, so think about that. if you buy tires from tirerack then pay someone to mount them you are still going to have to pay 15-20$ to get your tires rotated when you want.

When I bought mine I went with discount tire for the fact they are local, free rotation and if I have an issue I have a place to take the car. They made me a deal on Eagle F1 GSD3s that nobody could touch. I got a set of 245/50/16s mounted, balanced and valve stems/ w/ road hazard for 500 bucks out the door.

I buy all my tires from a small non-franchised Mom n Pap store. These guys are very reputable and very easy to deal with. The only franchised tire dealers around are WalMart, and I wouldn't let anyone there work on my car.

As for the brand, well I posted a new thread on my tire woes. I have to say the Goodyears are a definite NO!!!!! I had a set of Uniroyals on my first GP and they lasted almost 90k.
