Just wanted to solicit input on what tires everyone runs on their GP??

My 07 still has the OEM Michelin Energy MXV4 tires. While I am a Michelin fan, they are too pricey for my blood at $183 a whack from Tire rack.

I am not one to use aftermarket wheels since I like the oem aluminum wheels.

I have a set of Goodyear Triple Treads on the wife's minivan, and so far we are pleased with those.

It is obvious that the previous owner of my GP did not rotate the tires at all, as the fronts were at 7/32 and the rears at 10/32 when I bought it.

Thus, the better rear tires are now on the front to get them worn down to match the fronts which are now on the rear.

Thanks for your input in advance... Don

    QwikGT:

Please expand on your comment as to negatives on the General Ultimax. I have seen those advertised for around the $100 each mark.

I think the tire you are referring to that your Mom has is the Michelin Hydroedge. That appears to be Michelin's version of the GY Triple tread. Not sure which one had it first.

Living here in the snow belt of southwestern Ohio, I have to find a good compromise between performance and inclement weather capability.

Since my previous vehicle was AWD, traction in bad weather was not an issue. My experience is that FWD is better than RWD when it comes to snow, and AWD is the cat's meow.

in the rain the ultimaxes are great, on dry pavement they are no where near the 9.1 dry traction rating tirerack gives them, i can break em loose like nothing, heavy braking and cornering the squeal like piggies. i gotta try my mothers tires on my car and see how i like them

Still have 2 good ones left of the MICHLEIN 225/55/17s that came on my 06 GT. Of the other 2 left one went bye bye with a road hazard the other has a slipped belt. It make a warbling sound like a bad wheel bearing. I have replaced the bad michleins with 2 other low mile (3k) michleins from craigslist same size mxv4. for $50 ea. The guy did not know what he had. For future use I came across some GOOYEAR EAGLES at the SHRINERS SWAP MEET in Kansas City. NEW for $40 EA.
For the money saved I can for go the warranty and apply the $$$ to something else for the car.

No matter what tire you use make sure they are a HIGH PRESSURE radial. All of the tires I have are rated at 44 PSI MAX. I run them at 40-42 PSI. Car runs as if It is on rails. Not like the mushy ride if you leave the pressure at the factory settings. The higher pressure also helps fuel mileage a bit.

WALLY WORLD in my area does a great mounting & balance for the price . At least compared to the NTB store a few blocks away. MONEY IS MONEY.

I AM OPINIONATED, STUCK IN MY WAYS, AND PROUD OF IT.

Dont get two different styles, the ZRI's are a higher performance tire, and have higher ratings than the HRI's, The HRI are a high performance all season tire, H speed rating, the ZRI's are a full summer tire, different tread, Z speed rating, your car will not handle right esp in the rain and then your stuck for the winter. Get the HRI's i have had them on 2 different cars, and esp on my prix they not only handle great on dry pavement, but also in the rain and snow stands no chance. with a 400 treadware rating as well you really cant go wrong an all around solid tire and will be cheaper all around for all 4 than 2 and 2.

well the ZR1's I'm getting are basically free... I actually have an almost spare set of wheels that my brother had yanked off a salvage car for me... I just need one more. Since Summer is coming up I can get 2 more ZR1's and grab a set of HRi's when the fall comes around and put them on the spares...

    Thanks for the info
