So just got my GXP and the tires on there have great tread but are obviously....discount...to put it nicely, there is a noticeable amount of wheel hop even without smashing the gas, anyone else have experience with similar? Could this be attributed to cheap tires?

If so, tire recommendations? I saw a thread here, but there didn't seem to be very many GXP posts in there. I do plan on (hopefully) getting winter tires for the winter as I can't imagine an all season properly handling with snow.

Wheel hop is a RWD thing, not sure how that would happen on FWD but I don't doubt that they peel out pretty good if they are cheaper tires?

What tires is it running currently?

A good all season tire will handle the winter just fine but you will pay more for them but a winter tire will out do them hands down.

If your plan is to buy winter tires tires then look in higher performance all seasons or just summer tires. Bridgestone potenza's are grippy, michelin pilots, nitto makes HP summer tires same with hankook. You can also look into federal tires or nankang tires as they make great summer only tires for a decent price.

Wheel hop most definitely happens on a FWD. Experienced it myself multiple times. It's no different than wheel hop on a RWD.

When my tires wear out on my GXP I am likely getting the Yokohama YK580. I have them on another car and love them. They are reasonably priced, perform well, have treadwear warranty, etc. There are other good options out there, but I don't have experience with them.

Wheel hop with minimal acceleration? I'd be looking at the struts being worn out.

Struts are good, I should have been clearer, from a roll at 45ish more than 50% throttle shows some hop before they catch and go. The main reason I asked, I know the cars were factory with a stiff walled performance run flat and was wondering if soft wall tires could cause issues.

I'm from RI so I know most all seasons aren't really good during the winter. I had heard good things about the DWS 06 but was curious what people recommended.

Thanks for the suggestions so far. Guess tonight is gonna be spent reading and watching reviews.

you mean your smoking the tires and it wheel hops as its catching? or you feel wheel hop and not spinning, if option 2 your tranny is shot.

I had bridgestone potenza's on my car for almost 80k miles...damn good tire, and I was a very agressive driver.

Living up north, I would never advise all seasons (Heh, unless they have the winter logo here, they are not legal for winter anyways.)

My top picks for winter tires :
    Gislaved Nordfrost 100
    Nokian Hakkapellita 7
    Bridgestone Blizzaks WS80

Top picks for summer (On a decent budget, for high performance) :
    Bridgestone Potenza RE760
    Firestone Firehawk Indy 500
    Yoko's S.Drive
From Kumho's, though, I could suggest you for the price, the PS31 or PS91's. (Look em up, they are pretty darned sweet for the price.)

Annd for good performances all-seasons :
    Continental Extreme Contact DWS-06
    Yoko's Avid Envigor

Take what I say with a grain of salt, might be a bit too used to selling them since I sell tires 40hrs a week.

As for snow tires, I've ran Wanli Snow Grip (cheap off-shore brand), and last year picked up a set of used Uniroyal Tiger Paw Ice & Snow II. Both work just fine. Nothing special, but they work. Scope out Craigslist; always deals on snow tires.

AK has the same laws, at least up here. If your tires aren't actual snow tires and you get in an accident, regardless of the circumstances, you will be at fault.

Quebec has a "mandatory snow tire" law. I wish more provinces would follow them.

A few years ago buddy made it to work in the snow, driving his juiced up Mustang, running M/T ET street tires. Good example of the old saying....."Just because you can, doesn't mean you should."

On the topic of Cheap Tires (price wise) I've had good luck buying high quality tires cheap and used from Best Used Tires. http://www.bestusedtires.com/?gclid=...FQ-RaQodqC4C5Q Shipping is free and I always look for 8/9 32nds of remaining tread wear. Just recently got a set of Michelins that look like new and would've cost close to $800.00 for $325.00 shipped.

It does sort of feel more like option 2 there. Good thing its covered on my 2 year warranty if it is.

If you're looking for cheap, don't go with Bridgestone Blizzaks. They're more for the worst winter conditions possible... and kinda pricey.
