Thread: Which tires to use?

I am trying to figure out which tires to run with the bullits I am getting. Which tires would you run out of these choices, or can I/should I just use the stock 225 55 17's on 17x8's?

225s and 235s are too skinny for my liking for a modded GP. I'd put 245/50-17s (off 0.4%) or 255/50-17s (off 1.1%) on personally. Hell, I think x1FastGTPx has 17x8 Bullitts with 275/40-17s on his Beast (275/45-17s would be closest, but they don't make that size).

As for your choices in your post. I have Falkens on my Comp G (year round DD) and they are pretty decent and very cheap. A little skechy in real bad winter weather, but that's the trade-off of All-Season tires. Quite happy with them so far.

I really liked the Nittos I had on my first GP, but those were sticky 555s and summer only car.

I have no experience with Kuhmos, but I have heard the V710s are good competition tires (not much help in this case).

It all depends on what you're going for overall and what kind of duty your car will see. Good luck!

I was just worried that there is like 7/10 of an inch difference in height between the 225/55/17 and the 245/45/17's the 225's being the larger, and it would look goofy.

Nobody else has any input on which tire to run, and where to get them from?

ehh, mounting tires is not the problem. I just want to know what other members run on a 17x8 (mustang bullit rim) rim all year round, for the most part, occassionally getting a break when it snows and ice. I know what brands and treads I like and have tried a few out, but want to know what other peeps experiences are.

actually, stock 17" mustang wheels that use the 245/45R17 are .7% different than the 225/55R17, so if you found a set of wheels/tires that would work too.

there are a few other close sizes as well, but as long as you stay within 3%, of the stock computer calibrated size, you should be OK as far as ABS, traction control, shift points, etc.... obviously if you have the capability to get the PCM tuned, that can be fixed for other sizes outside of 3%. --the 235/50R17 is 1.5%

as for what tire to pick, it really depends on what you intend for the tire to do for you. do you run the car year around? will these wheels be used year around or summer only (assuming summer only)? what's your budget? At least to me the nitto's look best of what you posted, but there may be better options out there.

Nope, I had not forgotten the Comp G has 225/55-17s, as that is what I own(as well as my 99 GTP running 245/45-18). I had searched all those sizes myself when I needed new tires. Yes, the stock 97-03 225/60-16s are 0.4% too fast and 0.1" smaller than the 04/05 Comp G 225/55-17s.

Actually running the Mustang 245/45-17 would be no different than the 275/40-17 as both are 1" smaller in diameter and 4.0% slower than stock.

As I stated before:
235/50-17: 1.8% too fast, 0.4" smaller
245/50-17: 0.4% too fast, 0.1" smaller
255/50-17: 1.1% too slow, 0.3" larger
275/40-17: 4.0% too fast, 1.0" smaller

I personally have the 225/55-17 Falkens on my 05 Comp G (split spoke 17s). It is my year round daily driver. As previously stated I like them quite well for wet and dry traction. Extreme winter conditions they aren't quite as effective, but for an all-season still more than adequate. Like I said, for my tastes on a modded GP and if I had aftermarket wheels I'd go wider. Only because once I've modded a car it usually becomes summer only. With the Bullitts I would have one set of wider on them for spring/summer/fall and 225s or 235s on stock wheels for winter.

I'm not too bad with tires also, as most never seemed to last long with me and I have had to buy alot of them.

all tires are basically the same. falkens are very good quality, as are the khumos. nitto is more of a performance tire while the other two are a little more luxury side of performance.

While I will defend to the death you right to say that, I am going to have to disagree. (tryed to quote peter from family guy, but prolly messed it up) I am going to go with toasty other than their round, black, and hold air, beyond that there is many differences.

Yep, gonna have to go with the others. Not so much. Besides a few constants a tire must maintain there is a world of difference between one tire to the next.

between those three tires, they are all going to perform pretty similar.

I love michelin's never ran anything but them on my silverado's, other than the one I lifted and ran the swampers.
The bridgestones I might have to try, since I have always been happy with michelins, just trying to find something new or maybe better at a decent price.
