So i was plowing and salting. It was a new job i was offered this year with 5 locations that i have to take care in addition to my other job. Well, i bought my 1 ton dump truck in october 2014 and put 6800 into it to get my plow , my salt spreader, and misc stuff ready. Well on jan 12 i was hit while i had a GREEN light going about 30mph through and intersection on my way to my other location for my route. It was 430 am. I am hit on the right fender and my truck goes from one direction two lanes over on the right to the other direction two lanes over on the right. (west on right hand lane and hit which ended up with me going east on right hand lane) The hit was so abrubt that the air bag went off. My neck doesn't hurt but my lower back was stiff an hour after accident.
I end up going to er where i lay in a catscan bed for 1 minute. Was told to see an orthopeadic surgeon to get my back looked at. I called my auto insurance to find out more about the person that hit me.
It was an illegal citizen (yep we passed the law that allows people that dont live here to get a license) Turns out they had full coverage and their insurance called and said they would take care of everything. SOUNDS GOOD RIGHT???
So finally the insurance adjuster calls me and says we estimate the vehicle being totalled at a value of 13000. I said thats a little low i bought it for 12000 two months ago and just put 6800 into it and i have reciepts. This wasnt just a truck i wanted to sell for 13k. It was worth 20k to me and was my work truck for all seasons of the year!!!
They handed my claim over to another person.
Meanwhile, I call and ask how much my medical bills are. I was there for 2 hours my bill was 5,368.00 !!!!!!!! So they ask whose insurance do you want to bill? I said their insurance because im not a fault. I later learned from my lawyer that you want to bill your own that way they know and they go after the person at fault to collect. (its weird but lawyers understand how it works
meanwhile again, i finally show up to get looked at for physical therapy. Not too bad, i just need 8 sessions so far and i have 90 days to do it. The insurance person calls while im getting checked out at the PT office.
(people ALWAYS call at the WORST time) I ask what are we going to do about my vehicle, have we found out how much it is yet? (btw i faxed over my paperwork of all my receipts to them so they are looking into a commercial appraisal now) They said, yeah we need to get the vehicle out of there so we arent charged. I said ok ill have to let them know to release it (that was thursday) Saturday comes and i call the tow yard to ask if i can get some things out of the vehicle and my light thats mounted on the cab (200 dollar led light) They told me that i have to get a copy of the police report and then sign something to release it. I said okay ill do that monday then since everyone is closed on saturday
Here is where i start to get PISSED
1. I call to get my appointment for physical therapy and the first thing they always ask is who is your insurance? I only have major medical insurance with a 2000 dollar deductable meant for life threatening stuff. If i get sick i go to walgreens for 60 bucks. It works for me. Ok so after i tell them my insurance , they then have to call the insurance to verify it and then i have to call my insurance to tell them about the accident. Then i have to wait for calls and its really annoying because im trying to work while doing all this and being on hold with crappy music. They finally get me my appointments going next thursday at 3.
2. The tow yard that originally had my vehicle is under survellance so nothing can be stolen. I found out where it was at today and i was driving my dump truck 45 mins from where i live and i dont know how but my truck that was just at the yard that i was asking to get released on saturday was actually released FRIDAY!!! So i wait 30 mins to go get escorted to get my stuff out of the vehicle and i arrive and its like chevy chase on national lampoons vacation where they strip the family truckster of its wheels. My damn LED light on top that was mounted by magnets is gone. My custom 3 piece cigarette lighter that ws mounted to industrial strength velcro is gone. They didnt take my other cigarette ligher with inline fuse because its mounted.
So when the vehicle arrives at the new tow yard they are supposed to take a picture of what it looked like. Well there picture does NOT show the light on the top of the cab. So who is to blame? the towing company right???
I figure out who the towing company was and the guy just laughed at me and said how do you know we stole your stuff was it on video? I said, no its not on video but the place it was at before you has video how it looked when it left and i have a photo of what it looked like when it got to the new tow yard and its missing. The guy basically said it wasnt them. I said I know thats just life. People get screwed over when they try to do the right thing. I waited forever to get authority to get my damn stuff off my plow truck and now stuff is stolen.
What is the lesson learned???? Have them tow it to your place.
AND healthcare sucks. I could not even make an appointment to see a physical therapist if i wanted to pay for it. You need insurance.?
On top of all that, im missing snow plow work, my truck is valued at less than what i paid for, i have medical bills and its someone else fault. anyways im annoyed and thanks for listening.
