So I work part time at a local Kroger store as a courtesy clerk (bagger basically). This week I had got suspend with no hours because of two weeks ago I had called off two days I was supposed to work because I was snowed in up in Michigan with my Girlfriend who isn't from the US. I had told the manager:
Me: "Hey I'm up in Michigan and the roads are too bad up here I won't be able to come in."
Her: "Well its awfully early to be calling in for roads its supposed to be 40 and nice out"
Me: "I'm not in Troy I'm in Michigan and they got like 15 inches of snow and my Girlfriend who is from out of country flights got cancelled and I need to make sure she gets to the airport as my family all works."
Her" "Okay well thanks for calling"

Follow up the next day I call back to make sure the message had gotten though the chain of people and it did. Come to day I head into the store and look, no hours this week. I was confused and the Front End Manager pulled me into her office and said you have been suspend because of the two days I had said I couldn't work. I thought are you sh****ing me. Here is what happened

Her: You have been suspended for this week because the two days you said you couldn't work you didn't give me any information on why you couldn't, all you told me was you have a relative over and you wern't comming in and that the weather was perfectly fine. I then for the next 5 min explain how Michigan got shat on by snow and the roads went passable she then said "You should have told me that over the phone and this wouldn't have happened instead you told me its because you have a relative over" Then she contunied on to explain how this job isn't something you can just skip days whenever you want you are apart of a team. I interrupted her and said "Listen I take the job seriously, I'm never late for work, never call in sick or have I EVER skipped any days but for the two THAT I CALLED OFF. Never wrote up, co workers really like me and never had a complaint and at time ask for more hours because usually we are short handed." Her rebuttle then was "You called in last minute without giving us a good reason or warning" I called on the 7th of Jan and I worked on the 10th and 11th. At this point I was done with it and said "whatever i guess its my fault for not giving full information" They never even asked for any information to prevent this from happening. At the end she was "Now that I understand how you couldn't leave because of weather" I asked her what can I do to get hours this week "She like we will call you if we have any hours open up" I get up and leave

So basically my manager took what I said out of context, told management and then they suspend me and said sorry should have explained more. I literally was at a loss for words when she was telling me what "I had said" over the phone. Like REALLY, If I don't get any hours this week. Calling the Union because this is ridiculous they do this **** all the time with one of my other friends. I have bills to pay and my dad can't even afford food and I have nothing to give him I just feel so sick.
