Looks like GM is going to concentrate on 4 brands - Chevrolet, Buick, Cadillac, and GMC. No Saturn or Hummer, which isn't a big surprise, as Saturns now aren't really different cards but just rebadged, and Hummer is just Hummer. But Pontiac's loss shows how GM destroyed the brand as the performance brand.

Whoops, Pontiac will be a "speciality" brand so it won't go way. Guess the G8 and Solstice are the only ones that would survive, at least for now. G3 (Aveo), G5 (Cobalt). G6 (Malibu), Torrent (Equinox) would be gone.

GM will never go out of business, look at how many companys use them as fleet vehicles, the company i work for does. the presidents limo is a Cadillac, i dunno if hes gunna switch to Lincoln? if they decide to kill off pontiac, they should go balls out, crazy horsepower cars, etc. look at the GNX the last year of the GN and they made that monster. look at the vauxhall monaro 500, 30k and its a blown 6.0 liter that flies. look at the GTO when they jacked the prices up beyond belief. GM made a lot of stupid moves and they need to straighten up and fly right.

If GM goes under then so will half the country...... I don't think BUsh will let the Big 3 go down without a fight. 1 news report said that if GM and Chrysler go under that it would put over a quarter of the country in unemployment. I pray this does not happen cause it can only cause a worse trickle down effect.

I disagree. for the most part, Pontiac's are just Chevy's with pretty bumpers and a higher price tag.

I hate to see Pontiac go (or whatever), but if it is for the best, It is for the best. Good luck to GM and I hope that the restructuring goes well.

Yep. Right now the only Pontiac that isn't available as a Chevy or Saturn or other model is the G8, which really just a Pontiac anyway. I'd like to see them make Pontiac the performance brand like they said they would. Chevy would keep the Corvette, naturally, but don't make the Camaro - just make the Firebird as the two door sports coupe, the G8 (or bring back the Grand Prix name!) as the four door sports coupe, and maybe a smaller, dare I say, "ricer" fighter, more or less the G5 or G6. And of course keep the Solstice since Saturn is going away.

Way too late for that. The Camaro was an expensive project and the reason they went with the Camaro instead of Firebird is they knew it would sell more. They also didn't want to hurt their own sales by having two of the same sports car again, so it was one or the other.

Id just as soon they not produce that. I am a huge Firebird fan, have always loved them, it was my very first car. But I would rather they not product that one, too many cues off the Camaro, which Ive never really cared for and like the new on even less.

^Still a nasty looking ride. I use to hate a lot of the newer cars but some of the latest trends and ideas I'm loving. It's like the designers are truely reaching into their midlife crisis interior and building the cars of all our dreams.

that car is sexy, it does look camaro-ish, but hell they have always been somewhat close together.

also, if gm does away with pontiac, im done with gm. sorry but i was raised on pontiac and i see no other choice. i will continue to always drive pontiac, the only brand that has true style.

what GM should do is start back at basics and start manufacturing quality products and not turning customers over to other brands. there have been far too many errors on GM's part over the years. also they had too many brands under the name. remember K.I.S.S.? ( keep it simple stupid ) run with chevy, buick, pontiac, cadillac and gmc ( though im considering losing gmc as well ) i love gmc with the designs and the options but come on other than those what are they? chevy trucks.

now they need better designs and quality to get out of the grave they have been digging for the past decade

just an opinion and a drunk one at that lol

I read some time ago that part of their restructuring plans was to drop Hummer and Saab, either drop, or sell Saturn (depending on if it had any market value), and make Pontiac a "niche market" car company. Now I'm just trying to figure out what Pontiac is going to make. They've already established that the G3, G5 and G6 will be dropped since they're not "niche" cars. But at the same time, they also said there will be no redesign of the G8 and Solstice once their run is over. So......what the hell are they making, then?

BTW, the old name plates are not coming back for Pontiac because too many people associate Grand Prix, or Grand Am with "steaming pile of crap". This is the whole reason Bob Lutz decided to kill those nameplates, and make up all new, much more European sounding ones. We as enthusiasts look at throwing away all the heritage that goes with these names as sacrilege, but you have to realize the mass public hears those names, and thinks "oh HELL no, I'm not buying one of those pieces of crap again". Pontiac has to do what's best for selling cars to the mass public, not to little niche groups like us.
