So, i lost both sets of fobs and keys for my gp a year or so ago. Had the local dealer make/program new keys. couldn't afford the extra cost of the fobs at the time(little did i know). Fast forward to now. I buy a pair of fobs off ebay for 25$, change out the njank kung or w/e batteries that came with them, and call the dealer to see how much programming would be. They see that i recently had about 2k$ in body work done from an accident there and say they'll do it for free. I'm thinkin sweet, i'm out of this for just around 30$.

I send my fiance in there to have her get them programmed while i'm at work. I sent her with a 20$ bill to tip them if everything went smooth. She calls me shortly after she got there saying they got the fobs programmed but the car wont lock at all and they're going to need to put it on there scan tool(which it was just on to program the fobs). She saw him pop the trunk so i'm sure after seeing the 1000$ worth of stereo equipment in there she surely wouldn't allow the car to be unable to lock.
I said b/s, get the fobs, show them the snap on scan tool and bluetooth obdII adapter and tell them i'll fix that. She calls me back again saying the guy thinks it will be something simple wrong and it shouldn't take long to fix, she asked how much, he said around 100$. I told her the same thing. Get outta there and don't let them talk you into ANYTHING. I just changed the oil and flushed the coolant 2 days ago, we don't need anything else.

Get home, everything works perfectly. Guy was just trying to con a woman into something she didn't need. Maybe he didn't want to do it for free, but if he would have been honest he would have got 20$ out of it for something that took 5-10min. Dude just thought he was slick. I can't be too mad as they still did it for free, but they were still lying to get money out of my fiance.

cliffs: took car to dealer to get fobs programmed, said they'd do it for free. Said computer lost control of locking the car only after seeing stereo equipment, told them to piss off, and car was fine the whole time. Got fobs programmed free

Good job on calliing the stealerships bluff!!! I had similar situation but with a tire shop, TIRE KINGDOM, they wanted to charge me $400 for camber bolts for my 2000gtp. Needless to say, I had to go into thier shop and SHOW THEM HOW TO DO THE ALIGHNMENT ON a "W" body!

Hahaha, had an alignment guy tell me I needed camber bolts when I gave him the spec I wanted my alignment set at...

I told him, no problem, went to trunk, got box and handed them to him...

    The befuddled look was priceless!

Then amazingly, he didn't need them!!!

LOL! thats a good one there. It's always fun calling them out ot there face. I really wish i woulda went in there myself. A simple "lemme try it'' woulda resulted in me tell him something along the lines of " these fobs must be tricky to use, eh?"

I was really concerned they would hassle her about the remote start, but the car did come with it and they didn't say anything about it.

Nice, what dealership was this? I hate shops that do that to people who don't know anything about cars.

when things like this happen to me I always detail the incident on facebook then tell the dealer to look at it, they usually offer something for you to take it down, one dealer agreed to paint my hood and bumper for me. (he did a good job too). It's time these crooks got put in there place

Had an issue similar to that happen to my mom. I put new struts, strut mounts, etc on her car and had her make an appointment to get the car aligned. She calls me and says the shop says she needs all sorts of parts before they can align it and won't let her leave without putting the parts on. I told her to tell them not to touch it and I would be right there. Long story short the guy was trying to con a woman, telling her she needed parts repalced that I just replaced a few days before. I went off on him and even after they offered to do the alignment for free I told him to take the car off the rack and I was taking it elsewhere.

More people need to understand that the dealerships don't exist to help them. They exist to milk as much money out of them as possible, at any cost.

I like to support the smaller owner operator shops. It may not be as convinient as a dealer and the coffee may taste like a hint of 10w-30, but I know who is doing the work. I also feel a little more assured when the person doing the work takes the repair bill and calls me when it is done, and takes the payment.

I went to my local Tires Plus to buy some tires one day the car was in the shop for all of 10 min the guy comes out and hes like oh you need tie rods, ball joints, and a hub bearing, with the tires and an alignment its going to cost about $1,600. I look at their estimate and see they want to charge me $100 a piece for the tie rods, $250 a piece for the lower control arms, and another $175 for the hub bearing and something like $400 for labor. I looked at the guy and said no just the tires. I can buy all the stuff myself and install it for less than what you want to charge me for labor.

New Pair of GM Keyless Entry Remote Key Fob Transmitter Clicker Wireless Beeper | eBay

those are the ones i bought. they still seem to be working, they're definitely not oem quality but they work. Sometimes i've gotta hit the button twice. but as long as i can see the car they'll work, range wise.
