I never take anything to a dealership. I've always done my own work.
when parts cost as much as they do. hubs for my truck were 300 a side, had them replaced 3 times at the dealer,(both sides) the whole front end replaced 2 times. the trans replaced, t case, the rear locker rebuilt 2 times, blown head gaskets at 22,000 miles, cluster reprogram, 2 mafs at 300 a pop too. and the list goes on of warrantied work i had done.
i gladly took it in for free parts and labor. out of pocket i would have spent thousands in repairs, just in parts alone.
you just need to check their work over. most of the time everything went just fine, short of losing my truck for 4 to 5 days each time with no loaner.
but there were the few occasions where its like who let this moron have a job here, well who?
heres another time they fvcked me.
i took it in for a exhaust manifold leak, they put new gaskets on the manifolds, in doing so they needed to take the plug wires off and remove the plugs.
they call me up and tell me my plug wires broke when removing them, and the set they just put on will cost me 90 bucks + tax.
i lost it! you broke em, you replace them, hes like it dont work that way. im like then take your 8, 5 inch wires the FVCK off my truck, and ill bring my own. auto zone 30 bucks. put them on in the lot, and start it up, and its still got a tick. went back in cursed them out, made them listen to it, then made a new appointment. cant win.
nothing like not doing your job at all is there? and getting paid for it 2 times as well.
Yeah, dealerships suck.
I've seen the dealership I work at really bone some people.
Yeah, After blowing up the GM of the dealerships phone for the last two days the are paying for the rack to be replaced and paying for the rental car I'm driving.
I work at a dealership and its bad, but not that bad. dealing with warranty sucks the most. But 90% of the time we get ppl who ***** and complain, they we just cover whatever is it or give them a discount. Its all about CSI score, theyll do anything to make sure they get a good survey. To the OP, they may be running into a problem with warranty covering the repair because they arnt allowed to upsell warranty, basiclly if that repair doesnt fix what you r complaining about then if they do the repair warrenty wont cover it and theyll have to pay out of pocket. Next time you go in ask to talk to the warranty administrator, tell them what is going on(im sure they already know about it) and see what they say, he/she will know more then the adviser or service manager.
Well to those who think their dealerships are on the up and up, take a good read of this article, see link below.

Nothing new here.
Lol.
Fail company is failing.
Well, After picking up my car and the problem still existing and even going as far as to talk the service advisor for a test drive to show him the problem is still there. The refuse to address the issue and tell me they are looking for another car to compare it with. So, I had my work throw it on the alignment rack and it's out of alignment still as I figured and this morning I dropped it of at another GM dealer for a second opinion. I spoke with a lawyer on the matter yesterday and she advised me to get two different opinions and then give the dealership one last time to correct the issue before pursuing any legal action.
Search around somewhere there is a service bulletin that states on certain years ( know 97 is one of them for sure) The rack and pump and lines must all be replaced at the same time to aviod contamination
I thought about that too but the other GM dealer just finished with the inspection and said all the steering componets were fine and the only recommendation was an alignment and a transmission control module calibration.
that was only for cars made at 2 of all the plants. they run the vin and know if its covered or not. believe me when my rack went bad i called a dealer with my vin to find out if i was under that recall.
I try to do most of my own repairs on my Grand Prix. If I ever had to get a new water pump or something I'd just get a Duralast. I've always had good luck with Duralast parts. Plus my uncle is a GM mechanic but got laid off because the dealership went out of business :-P gee I wonder why.

So, after 5 trips to the dealer in 3 weeks I have gotten 5 alignments and a set of matching correct size tires. Unfortunately I still drive with the wheel turned slightly left to go straight and if the wheel is centered and I let go it pulls either mad left or right. Steering also feels loose and kinda effortless and the toe is off on the front and right rear. Anybody got any ideas the dealership can't seem to figure it out and insists everything is fine?

YEa, they are lazy, or just plain stupid. Take it back and watch them make it right. Centering the steering wheel is simple, but involves a complete to-in job to do properly. It is just a matter of turning the outer tierods to set the toe-in, it is also important that the wheel is straight for the airbag (SRS) to operate properly.
i would tell them if they cant do a alignment they will have to pay for it to be done else where, its under warranty right? if you you have the upper hand here.
time to call a lawyer, see if you can have the lawyer send a nice friendly letter if you cant get anywhere with them.
threats of law suits and talking to the news. posting flyers with pics of their sh!ty work may get them jumping too. they cant do crap if everything you post is the truth.
getting in touch with owner of the dealership may help too.
I thought about having them take it somewhere else but I have a feeling something isn't right with the rack because the steering almost feels effortless.
