Ok so i work at a gas station/shop and you wouldnt believe how many people dont use premium gas(we have 94) or even 89 in there high performance vehicles. It really bothers me people that come in with 80k+ mercedes, bmw, porche, chargers, ect... Like maby 1 out of 10 of these cars run premium gas. Like really you can spend that much money on a car but cant spend 3 more bucks on a fill? The gas cap even clearly states "Recommended fuel 95 octane, Required fuel 91+" Wtf they put 87 in, i wish i could afford a car like that and not give a **** to actually take care of it. Just had to let that out lol

i run premium in everything i own just because

I don't think its being cheap, most people probably don't know what they are supposed to be using.

I bet in most cases, the vehicles you listed only recommend 89, even the Hemi Chargers (per quick google search).

I use 87/89 octane in my N/A GP because its the only gas I can get around here without 10% ethanol. This increases my MPGs.

Lets do some math to show how cheap these people really are:

Lets say you fill your tank completely every single week. Average lets say those luxury cars have a 20 gallon tank.

20 gallons x $0.20 extra (for premium) = $4 extra per week, per complete fill up for 93.

Now, lets get how much it's gonna be each year.

    $4 x 52 weeks in a year = $208 extra every year to run 93 vs 87.

Now, lets break that down to monthly payments for those who are wondering:

    $208 / 12 months = $17.34 extra each month..

Lets not be cheap. If you can afford a car that runs on premium, I'm sure you can afford $17.34 extra every month to keep it running optimally. $17.34 is IF you fill a full 20 gallon tank EVERY week.. most likely you do not, therefore it is cheaper in some cases.

I don't understand why people still pay for gas with cash, when you can get a credit card that gives cashback on gas purchases. Mine only amounts to like $2-3 a month, but as a friend and I like to say, that's 2-3 Mcdoubles. I love me some mcdubs.

That 2-3 dollars you get back is also another transaction you need to do to pay that card. Some dont wanna...some don't have the credit to get that card. LOL

I also find it funny how people are about premium. What's even more interesting to me is that the same guy "saving" $4 on his gas fillup will walk into the store and buy $5 worth of chips and soda.

As far as credit and cash back, I quit using and canceled all of my lines of credit. The only thing I have borrowed is for my house. I'm not interested in a plane ticket once a year or getting some money back. I usually use a debit card instead of actually using "cash" cash.

I'd like to get my credit up to be able to get one of those cards.

I agree on this, most of my friends just do the bare minimum. GF doesn't understand why when I put gas in her 3.0L Ford Ranger I use 91+, I tried to explain it is better, makes the truck run better, better mileage, the pro's outweight the extra couple bux but she still argues. I just gave up. There is only a few people I know that actually run high octane in their vehicles, were all car guys lol. My mom is getting to where she understands, her mustang gets better mpgs on the highway with 93 so she is starting to use it, but when money gets tight she does what she has to.

Working parts for the past 5 yrs I have learned that 75%+ of car owners haven't even opened the owners manual to learn specifics of their car. They just use it and when something breaks they cry to a dealer or mechanic. Multiple times I have had to refer people to the manual for simple tasks, I just don't get it.

Not sure if its just our local Ford dealership or if it is suppose to be a Nationwide Ford thing, but a couple people I know bought new cars from our local Ford dealer and they had to go through a full checklist and the owners manual with the salesmen before they were allowed to leave. It went over the car top to bottom, even covering bluetooth sync of my friends phone, so the customer knows the car and how to operate it. If more companies did this I think it would really change things, several people I have talked to didn't even know the new cruze they bought was turbo'd and needed better gas, they were REALLY griping after I told them they needed to run 91+ gas. lol
