Re: f^^^ing people that get sh*t handed to them!!!!
I dont get why anyone gets mad when someone else gets something "handed to them"... I see it by the **** ton here at KU (kids rolling around in brand new audis and range rovers) and admit I too used to get a little mad/jealous at times...
But then I realized that their parents worked hard to be able to buy things for them so who am I/are we to judge them for how their parents spend money that they earned?
And, on another note, there isn one person here that can honestly say that if their parents got them a car(or whatever) that they wouldn take it...
I would have to agree on the bragging thing though, its one thing to take pride in something but to flat out shove things that you personally didn earn into someones face... thats just messed up..

Re: f^^^ing people that get sh*t handed to them!!!!
my parents bought me an older saab, i loved the hell out of it, the only car i washed once a week, till one day went to pass a car and the engine blew. my dad wasn't really pissed about it, but i've paid for every vehicle i've owned since. which have been 4 cars and two trucks.
but the first car i did work almost a full year before i was even given the car, and i only worked so i could get insurance and a license.
ah to be 16 again, when your only real bill was insurance

Please don't become unhappy by thinking about what others have and you don't. I am thankful for what I have, to me its pretty good, (wife, child, home, two newish vehicles, her student loan) All on my salary, now if my wife ever earns as much as I do that will be hitting the lottery to me.
Re: f^^^ing people that get sh*t handed to them!!!!
likes like the **** up at my highschool, kids driving their parrents **** or their parrents buy them Cobalts or 99-04 mustangs.... and they rip on me for my prix, like stfu, get a real job (mc.dicks doesnt count) and buy your own damn car, till you do, dont say n e thing about my ride
Re: f^^^ing people that get sh*t handed to them!!!!
Having a car in high school is unnecessary to start with.
Even college/university unless you commute.
Re: f^^^ing people that get sh*t handed to them!!!!
...I'm sorry, but that can't be a very well-to-do town if someone has the nerve to BRAG about receiving a 6 year old Pontiac for their first car. Around here, that's what the "poor kids" would drive. Where I went to high school, at least 1/4 of the kids got a new BMW, Mercedes, Audi, Lexus, etc & 1/4 got used variations of those for their first cars (along with an attitude to match). Another 1/4 got new or newer "lesser" cars, and the rest had either an older car, borrowed their parents' car, or had no car at all.
It's not the act of having something handed to you that bothers me. As others have said, I doubt anyone here would have turned down their parents buying them a nice car. What bugs me is the snotty attitude that comes with it, especially because these kids don't realize that their parents are only buying them expensive stuff because they're USING them as a means to show off their OWN money/status. "I'm so rich that not only do I drive a car better than you, but I can even afford to buy a first car for my KID better than yours!" It should really be looked at as a form of child abuse because when these kids are old enough to be on their own, and the parents can't use them as a showcase anymore, the buying of stuff will come to an end. At that point, reality will be very harsh for them because they were never taught ambition, the value of a dollar, how to survive off of what they make or what it takes/how to make more, etc. In other words, their parents have failed in parenting them. They have not prepared them for life.
BTW, gtpsleeper, I think the thing that bothers me the most about the situation is a lot of these parent's DIDN'T work hard for their money, and it's probably a huge part of this problem/situation. I know it doesn't apply to everyone, but how many times have you personally experienced or read about how idiotically a store or company is run by the same people that continue to remain in power? The problem is we reward incompetence and mediocrity in this country. Un/under qualified doctors, mechanics, lawyers, managers, CEOs, etc. who somehow maintain a career, and are seldom held accountable for their incompetence. In essence, these people are having money handed to them despite their performance, so the concept of handing things to their kids who never earned anything either comes naturally to them.

i respectfully disagree sir. work, school, baseball conditioning/practice, weekends... anything was at least a 15 minute drive from my house in the middle of nowhere
Re: f^^^ing people that get sh*t handed to them!!!!
Yes, but in your situation, rent is less than my car insurance.
So there comes a point when you have to consider cost of living.
Namely every comparison....
Part of what pisses me off when people rip on these chinese made products yet I ask them "what is a fail living wage in that area?" and they have no clue.
Re: f^^^ing people that get sh*t handed to them!!!!
i agree i wish my parents bought me my car and im 17 and did all the work myself and with friends and guys i work with, witch makes me feel proud i made it how i wanted on my own i get alot of compliments. But many of the kids up here get cars bought for them and i say to them when they brag about it, well you didnt build your car you parents bought it... i feel way better with me building my car then just getting a nice one bought for me.

I agree with the point made on standard of living, but there are wealthy areas that are not metropolitan and a car is still needed.
Living in Canada also has its costs differences.
OP, i went to a catholic prep school so i know how you feel. I can tell you it only gets worse when you get older. Instead of buying cars mommy and daddy buy their kids houses and get them jobs.
Focus on living and enjoying life and family, its something you can easily have thats much richer than anyone else.
Re: f^^^ing people that get sh*t handed to them!!!!
i agree with a lot of what's being said in this thread. i'm 18 and have always worked and paid for my stuff. One thing that's important to remember is that many of those rich kids are pretty cool. They're not all assholes. I'm friends with a couple of rich kids and they share everything their parents give them. I always get to mess aroound with their cars, drifting and **** like that, get invited to their sick house parties, and they always pay when we go clubbing and ****. moral of story: some of these ppl are assholes, but many are not. dont be a hater, or you may be missing out on some fun.
