Honestly, if someone buys you a $30,000 car, you lose the right to complain.

Just a warning I been in that line of work since 1991 and now jobs are few and far between since a lot of this can be done on line or over the phone and the jobs have all gone to pakistan or china went from $35.00 and hour when I started out to 13.00 and a bunch of layoffs in between and forget doing side work people don't want to pay crap because they can go to Walmart and get a whole new system for real cheap these days BUt I do wish you lcuk back in the day I made some good money (until a red head and a blonde spent my life savings and forged checks on me leaving me broke) and had some good times and made some good friends

^ ^ That's what I've heard too. Basically gotten the "Oh, it's an awesome field, money is good, jobs are everywhere blah blah blah" side and then I've gotten your side of things. At this point I'm just hoping that your side is wrong (it's nothing personal, trust me). I guess time will certainly tell.

i had my first truck given to me. since then, full time job. currently 20 hours in school and 40 hours over two jobs, one days and one nights. result? a list of cars at age 20 that a guy in a mid-life crisis would be jealous of, currently owning two. the latest one is an 08 with 40k miles that cost well into the 5 digits completely in my name.

    moral: it pays off, eventually.

still not enough to move out on though. ****.

VVV That beast on the left of my sig pic was the first car i had. My sister got it at 16 from my great grandma for an early graduation present cause she couldnt drive it anymore. After my sister headed off to college she got an 02 Alero leavin this one to sit in the yard for a good year or so. Then I got my license and wanted my own car but couldnt afford it. My dad basically paid $500 for a carb rebuilt and some other things to make it run and then he let me drive it around. I covered gas and insurence. She got 10mpg on a good day but i usually got 8mpg. I took so much crap from kids at school for driving it. Most called it sh!t and would always pick on me bout it. It really hurt my feelings because it wasnt like i could afford a different one. I figured I made up for getting a car handed to me because this thing was notorious for stalling. In my 9 mile trip to school it would stall 1-2 times and I'd stuff a screw driver in the throttle plate, get back in and turn it over and hold the gas and she would fire right up. Then id put a brick against the gas pedal otherwise itd idle down and quit and go grab my screwdriver and put everything back and continue on my way. My friends didnt even wanna park by me cause the car would stink of gas so bad. That was good cause nobody would be able to ding my doors that way. Plus i adjusted the window washer fluid tubes so it would shoot it over the car onto the car on my right. Was fun to do to kids who tried to always cut me off.

I paid upfront and in full for my 2000 GT a month after I turned 17. I must say that it feels good to actually earn something and I cant stand it when kids think they are so cool because mommy and daddy handed them a nice car. I dont mind kids who get things and actually value it and understand that they are really lucky. And to be honest my dad has had to help me on a couple of gas fill ups do to unexpected repairs.

I got my first car handed to me when I got my licenses..it was a 1997 Intrepid. My mom and stepdad paid for most of the repair work. I sometimes got money for gas to get to school, I didn't have a job. I drove it for 4 years. I sold that car for $1000, and bought my current Grand Prix for $1200. Of course I realized how great it was that my parents did that for me.

I rebuilt the engine in my Grand Prix, bought a used tranny, did most the work myself, and paid for it all myself. I don't expect a dime from any of my parents.

My first car was a gift, and I treated it like it was made of solid gold. It was a 1993 Volkswagen Cabriolet. I still wish I had that car because it was insanely good on gas.

What I hate is when people are given vehicles in wonderful shape, then they **** them up. They trash them out on the inside, they damage the suspension hitting potholes, they don't maintain them, don't wash them, and generally don't care what happens to them at all. That just makes my blood boil. My brother ruins the interior of any car he drives within a month. Can't stand that.

While I always paid for my cars/trucks, insurance etc but my parents always take care of me for my birthday and christmas. ex. My mom got me a ps3 and my dad spent almost as much on other stuff as well. I've always been happy with stuff like that or less. However if someone's parents are well off then I don't see the problem of making their kids life more comfortable. Unless they're a cheeky ****, then they're getting a grand prix se.

I don't have a problem with people getting a decent car on behalf of their parents. Hell I got my '01 GP GT as my first car and I didn't pay a red cent. Well, except for anything I wanted to do to it aftermarket wise.

I have a problem with someone getting an incredibly expensive car or with too much HP to respect. When I sold the car, my parents got the cash. So pretty much I was borrowing the car.

Both my '00 GP GTP and my '09 G8 GT are paid for by me, everything. I'm about ready to pay of the GTP no less. I am a fan of hard work, I don't like things being given to me.

I loved it when a spoiled rich kid got a brand new Jag at my old HS, broke down a week later.

But lets be honest, a week in a jag is better than a year in a GT.

I suppose, I'd never own one lol. I loved my first car. It was a rental so it was loaded lol.

Have to agree on the bit about a loaded GT being more than idea for a first car.

Plenty of power for a new driver.

My brother gave my parents heck lol. He had a 4-banger Jeep Wrangler for his first vehicle. His second vehicle he got from them was a Grand Prix SE. Naturally I followed my brother and found my first car. Was priced well and had high mileage for its year, but because of it being a rental it was still in pretty good shape.

Was it too much power for a new driver? Probably so, but I was never a foot to the floor kind of driver. I didn't get my license until I was 18 by personal choice.
