Ok the sad day finally came where i sold my 2002 grand prix gt. Anyway now it's turned to anger. It's been two day and the guy called me demanding i pay his "1300 buck" repair bill or take the car back. I had the car inspected 5 months ago and the front end was looked at 3 weeks ago, zero issues. He claims that it failed inspection for rack and pinion, control arm, tie rod end, and leaky tranny line. First off i think it's all bull
    -Car steers perfect
-Car rides smooth without bumping or anything
-and the tranny fluid level never changes one bit

Regardless of whether these are lies anyway, there one mass lemon law that states that if the seller didn't know you cant do anything so i would be good, but there's another that states if the vehicle fails inspection within 7 days and the cost to get it to pass exceeds 10 percent of the sale price, which was a discounted 4300, then it may be returned.

Correct me if i'm wrong, but rack and pinion and tranny lines aren't part of the safety inspection, only the tie rods and control arm. It sounds to me like he brought it to a buddies shop and had it cleaned inside an out for what parts will go first and is trying to mooch them off of me. I'm so pissed off with D-bags and he is only getting more agitated as i call his bluffs. And he also had every opportunity to get it inspected before, and even said the car rode nice himself when he test drove it.

Anyone from mass or anyone that just knows, know if he can come out on top here?

I've lived in Mass and am now just over the border in CT.. When the front of the car is jacked up, they check for play in the steering. A bad rack can show play. I recently had my Regal checked by my buddy for a potential rack. It can happen... on the leaking trans line..it could be a slow seep that you'd never notice.

They shouldn't cost 800 though. A replacement rack (refurb) is ~250 parts and the trans line is about $20. You coudl have the repairs made for a lot less than 800 IMO
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

Did the bill of sale say that you were selling the vehicles as is, no warranty?
If so, tell him to stop harassing you.
If not, you may have to go to court stating that no warranty was given, expressed, written, or verbal.

Guys..read what he wrote. Bill of sale in Mass means nothing. It's the price that matters. Which is why my buddy wanted me to sell a car for him....cause I'm in CT. Under $3 and there's no warranty issue.

Ya its a 10 year old used car there shouldn't be a warranty but mass makes no sense and there is an implied one I guess. So they have to be ma state inspection items and cost more than 10% to fix so the main question I guess is which of those would fail a car for mass state inspection?

id just take the car back, ive seen cases on tv , (judge judy) where in mass, if it dont pass inspection, the seller is f'ed. mass is one of them states (the only one where the buyer has rights) where the AS IS SALE dont mean a frigging thing. the seller always loses.

Dont do that. If he goes to court with this he may get up to 3x what he paid. Ma laws suck. If your buying a car they are great but for a seller they suck!!

    Good luck

Hey guys got some more info check my question its easier than typing again. Lemonaid law? who would win? - Yahoo! Answers

As far as rack he was lying it just has a leak and didn't fail for it. All he can claim on is tie rod end and control arm bushings.
