I only bought in in February as a daily driver, but I have had nothing but bad luck and problems with it.

It was a eBay winner, in "excellent" condition. Excellent condition, if you discount broken front sway bar, bad wheel hubs, broken thermostat, leaky UIM, junkyard transmission, rusty resonator, assorted rotted hoses, and some dry rotting on the sides of the tires.

So after sinking quite a bit into the "great" deal to fix the above problems, I still have a bad PCS in the transmission, I threw away the carpet because of three straight days of rain and the leaky passenger front side became soaked passenger front AND rear, as well as damp driver rear side. And the fix still didn't stop the leaking!

Within the past month, I had the MAF sensor go bad. I drove my Impala for a few days until I replaced it, and the Impala took the windshield crack that the GP should have taken. Yesterday morning the LOW COOLANT light comes on. I just did a flush back in February and replaced the UIM in April. I looked at the overflow container, and it was about at the hose line. I filled it up a bit, and there's not obvious leak underneath and the oil looks fine, albeit dirty. So it's probably not low on coolant, but the sensor is broke. And yesterday I discover a screw in one of the dry rotted tires. So it's not really worth it to repair the tire as it needs to be replaced soon anyway.

I knew buying a car with 84,000 miles on it wasn't going to be skittles and rainbows, but I also didn't expect to put as much money in parts and labor into it in 6 months as I paid for it!!! Not only that, but sure enough, two months after I buy it, in April, my supervisor tells me a position closer to home is opening up. More or less the main reason I bought the GP is now gone. A 45 mile, 60-90 minute one way commute waking at 5:00 AM is now 15 miles, 30 minutes if I go slow and hit every light, and I can sleep until 6:30 AM.

If I wanted to sell it right now, at a minimum I still need to put in new carpet, so at least that looks presentable. But I'm unlikely to come close to getting my investment back. The car is paid off, so if it was working fine, it's just maintenance and insurance. And because it's my daily driver now, my insurance actually DROPPED a few bucks adding a fourth car! But I've already decided it won't be going more than 100 miles from home, in case it dies on me. And the pressure control solenoid that needs replacement in the transmission really needs to be done, or else I'll be selling a car with a non working transmission.

ARRGGHH!! I only wanted to get 2-3 years out of the car, and I would have been happy, even after the initial repair investment. But it's been 6 months, and the main reason I bought the car has disappeared.

    $6000 - Any takers? I'll deliver it!

you bought it strait off ebay??? not trying to get down on you or anything and it sucks to hear the car was in such horrible posistion. but did you check it out before you bought it?? buying a used car is tricky and not something that should be done over the internet. hope you get some money back out of it tho

Never buy a car sight unseen, especially from Ebay. Sounds like you got screwed big time on that car. With all those issues I would of said, cya.

I donno what you paid for it, but theres no way an 00 GT nearing 100k is going to sell for $6,000, sorry man.

Live an learn, and leave car buying for the real world, not the net.

All of my cars that I buy are high mileage. I know that I am going to have issues with them. But I only buy them at prices that I can afford to sink a little money in them. And yeah, they are my DDs, but I also like to mod them a little. So when my sway bar broke, time to upgrade to GMPP. LIM gaskets needed changed, might as well install rockers too. So it makes it more fun to do some mods when I am repairing things.

But I realize that the cars I buy are not perfect. I was just saying to my wife the other day about how I would drive my car with 195k miles on it almost anywhere. But if I bought a "new to me" car with say 80k miles on it, I would hesitate to even drive it to work 50 miles away because I don't know it history. With my car, I have been over almost everything on that car. And I know what can break, what is about to break, and what is going to last basically forever. But it is the chances I take for driving an older, high mileage car.

FWIW, I bought this current GTP 3 years ago with 125k miles on it for $3200. I demodded some things (18s, lowering springs, etc) and made another $500. So I only had about $2700 in my car. Sure I have put probably that much into it with repairs and mods. But I have driven my car for 3 years. Just think of how many $200/month car payments that has saved me.

So while doing some initial repairs on an older, higher mileage car may suck, if you plan for them and don't spend too much on the initial cost of the car, in the long run, it is worth it. My advice is fix what is needed and hang in there. Run the car another couple years and get your money's worth out of it. If you do decide to take a hit and sell the car, you are only doing the next guy that much more help.

But if you are seriously interested in selling it, let me know.

I knew going into it as an eBay deal I needed to be concerned. I did the CarFax route, but even then, that's only good if a shop reports it. My wife's Mustang was purchased from a used car dealer, clean CarFax. But after having a shop look over it, it was obvious it was in an accident and that's why it was sold.

I'm going to clean up the GP, put the new carpet in it, and generally get it in presentable shape. Even with everything I've put into it, I'm won't lose too much on it. I've even considered doing a quick de-mod of the powerlog and CAI since I still have the originals. Might recover a couple bucks for those.

The other side of me feels that I should just keep driving it until it really gives up the ghost. If I get the tranny fixed and stop the water leak, I'll feel better driving it, knowing I should get another 50k out of the car. If it makes it to 150k, I won't car so much what happens afterwards.

Take down a back road and run it of the road. Then call and report it stolen.

Yeah, my insurance company would think nothing is weird after three accidents last year, and then another this year. Oh no, that wouldn't raise any red flags.

red flags or not.... here's the method, just for the record this is all hypothetical as I'd never condone breaking the law...ha ha lol

you go to a river boat casino where there is cameras....or any public place where you can be verified as being there at a specific time.... meanwhile a friend, but not one of your closest just someone looking to make a quick c-note comes along with the spare key and off he goes, (later he must use a hammer to bust off ignition) he takes it somewhere out of the way, and lights it on fire.....(make sure he has a can of lighter fluid poured throughout)
after he's had ample time to do his part, you head out to go home, and of course come back in angered and distressed and a little confused...call the police, while waiting for them call your ins. agent or 1-800# to make sure they're aware of the situation....
try not to smile while making your statement...then follow the course till you recieve your check in the mail.....
remember that song in the movie "office space"???? how'd it go??? something like "it feels good to be a gangsta"....

but remember this strategy is for entertainment purposes only......I in no way suggest you carry something like this out...lol
