I wanted to open this up to ask you guys your opinions on people with their ricey cars. Like take a moment back and think for a bit.

Ricers, is it a culture? Is it something where when you get your pay check in the mail its like, oh my god, i cant wait to add neon or head lights to my car or dude! lets half ass sand my car and spray paint it this and that. Like maybe in one point in time we had our rice moments but, where would you guys say, comes from. Did it really originate from asian car makers making their late model cars look fast? Is it a base of preference? I want my CRX to have chrome top to bottom! Im saving up for this bodykit i can barely afford and dude, **** it, i can paint it myself and itll look the same...Actually, i like the two tone.

Put yourself in the ricers shoes. Do they have that much pride in their car to a point they would make their car look like that, knowing they would get "looks". Or is it to impress their "lady" or their "friends"? If it came down to that point and your best friend puts something on their car and everyone around you is like dude! did that guy really put......on his gp?...Ricer! Your a ricer, have some cash, see a big ass muffler, and its like damn that looks dope, put it on your car, oh mang, its a fart can, but i love it! Like what do Ricers say to those that have a authentic mugen bodykit, or a full borla exhaust system. Like...oh nice, mines bigger, better? But the other persons is faster? Hmm.

Obviously its all looks and nothing under the hood, well..a massive cold air intake..and...a..uhh..i have nos in my car okay?! And then you have those who have a car that put a good amount of money into decides to show off at a car show and then the cops put a road block and gives everyone tickets.

We all have our own interpretations of a ricer, some appreciate it some don't. The definition starts to broaden. But wait, why?! I thought ricers where people make their car look fast. But now, how about the Mustang down the street with 16' chrome rims and chrome fender pieces? Its fast too!

What happened to 24' spinners or the 30' rims..? LOL thats so couple years ago haha. Well anyways, ricers, is it a trend? A culture? A phase?
Im pretty sure, there are ricers out there that can take care of a car, or have the passion for their car. But at the sametime are these people aware of once they attach that mod to their car its like omg its nice, a wip but nice. But then one day your stupid crash your car, the mods do not mean **** to its value and bam, dropped cash that doesnt show and now you need a car because your insurance doesnt cover stupidity. Now dont get me wrong, we are all stupid , unlike some of us who take it to the track haha. But yeah. What is this ricer thing? what do you call it? a car club? no.

Ricers rice things, just the way it is. What looks good to some people, doesnt to others.

Most probably comes from the Fast and Furious movies, where people see professionally built imports, and think they can do it themselves.

Now wrecking a car that people put money into, and wont get insurance back on...applies to every single car on the road, that's not stock.

90% of ricers and kids who got a Honda civic (or equivalent cheap car) and want to mod it.

Now 10% of those people with "ricer cars" have a spray bombed, gutted car, with a turbo, that will outrun most cars under $40,000, due to power and weight.


I agree, people ricing out cars is dumb...But so is dropping $5k worth of mods into a grandma car, and trying to make it fast. But we just look better doing it.

A failsauce mixture of ignorance, youth, and bad taste. Most grow out of it, some don't. How someone decides to dress their car isn't something that bothers me really. The only thing that pisses me off is how they have ruined street scenes across the U.S.

IMO, you can be a "ricer" even behind the wheel of a nice vette. Not because of how the car looks obviously, but if you're driving like a dumbass 16 year old with something to prove...you're being a ricer.


Now on the other side of things, people piss me off with this anti-rice BS. When someone looks at a stock STI and calls it rice...it's time for them to GTFO.

My previous car was a 96 neon with a parkbench on the trunk and black hubcaps, boy I was so cool!
I also wanted a fartcan. At the time I did it sort of as a joke but at the same time I thought I was cool.

Right i definitely agree. These days, people refer evo's or wrx's ricers as well! its like dude! Are you kidding me! So basically in the end, if your car isnt meant to be that way, dont make it that way, right? Save your money for a car with MORE potential.

i still respect a STI, or an EVO simply for the fact they can out run me plain and simple thanks to the AWD ....

but a 16 year old with a Civic who claims its fast will get no love from me (specially if its just a fart cannon with a cold air, and no go fast parts)....the kids around my area...just dont even get me started on them lol...basically they want to make racecar out of honda's with no real mods...only gofast stickers and exhaust lol and they wonder why they cant hang with my STOCK GTP lol

I have been know to rice cars out in my younger days. I'll provide an example because i thought it was awesome.



I have since learned that it was stupid and i dropped way to much money into stupid things on it.

I had a car that I dumped about 10k in to make it look cool/better than stock, with no go fast mods, but imo it turned out great!! (Not a honda btw) and after awhile I got bored with it and traded it in for 2k. I seriously lost my ass on it like I knew I was going to, but it was time to grow up. Now I got this gtp and I still got the itch to do stuff to it.....just more will power not to scratch this time.


I think kids do it to impress their friends. Its kind of a battle over who's got the cooler car with a part time job. Lol they can't afford a vette or anything real nice, so they buy a honda cuz its cheap then slap anything that's in there price range on it which happens to be cheap autozone lights, stickers, mufflers, etc. I guess u can't blame them for trying tho. We've all had our share of beater ass cars that we've "experimented" on and learned the ins and outs of cars, and what works and what doesn't etc on. Its kinda like the skinny jean emo kids, they do it cuz that's what their friends are doin. In a few years they'll move onto a diff style, look back and say wow.....that was stupid, I can't believe I actually did that! Lol

i think its a taste thing, and also a compensating thing as well. When i was 16, i put a flowmaster on my 3.1L cutlass, why? because i liked the noise. Didnt say it was a good noise, i just wanted it. Other than that i never did anything else to that car other than an aftermarket HU. If you feel the need to put a huge wing on a FWD car then you simply dont get it and it makes it easy for people to laugh at you.

Most DIY ricers and autozone ricers look so ****y because the parts are generic and they are held on with glue or tape. If you have an absolute need to have other people think your car is cool, save up and do it right. Most of these people prefer right now or right.

I honestly think it just falls on Preference. most ppl who Rice their cars out do sit and watch Fast and Furious all the time. And im sure they do want something like that to drive around every day. Obviously we have a tad more sense than to bolt a Boeing 454 wing on the back of our cars with a big Folgers can on the exhaust but still it is based on preference. And im almost certain that we will NEVER understand it just like im sure they dont understand why we go so hard for our grocery getters. all based on Prefrence.

Right, so then there is no right or wrong with with preference. But then its a phase. But then its involved based on your age, impressing your friends, and your part time job. if you had money, you'd pay someone to do it with the correct parts or genuine parts even. If you have experience, hey, even better. But for the most part these project cars we go through are half assed, never finished, or we..idk? lol. How does it that people transition from ricer to actually have the nice car. Cars do reflect on our personalities...to a certain extent.

I made a body kit for a 91 buick out of cardboard and duct tape...and it looked decent...of course it was a joke until a...let's say this nicely "someone not born of the united states" told me how cool it was. He was not joking. I think a lot of the "migrant worker" rice is them tryin to fit in to the us culture...only they do what they can afford. So you get hondas with musang gt wings they got at the pick and pull.

Lol, the big rim game moved on.... while spinners/floaters aren't that popular anymore, 30s are just hitting their prime. This is mainly due to the fact that forged 3-pc. wheels have become more expensive than your average floater. Thus, the popularity of Forgiato and Asanti wheels, especially in staggered offsets. Half of those cars with 24+ wheels can, in fact, outrun a lot of other vehicles nowadays, since sky-high lifts are no longer in style. Some people still do it, because they like it, but the scene now is littered with 25-series tires and lowered, 'bagged, or stock suspension.

I've riced out a few cars, On my favorite, I had a big ol single stack aluminum spoiler and rattle can gold hub caps on a 92 Dodge Spirit that I rattle canned black, leaving racing stripes all down the body in the original peeling red paint. I put a carbon fiber manual shift knob on the auto shifter (which is on the steering assembly). I then painted my BMX bike to match. It was ****ing baller. Haters ****ing hated and I loved it. The only thing I wish I had done is add neons.

Do what you want to your car, it's your car, noone elses. If you get that worked up over what someone elses car looks like, you've got issues.

I riced my GTP for a little bit, got it when i got my permit and spent 4 years with it. The first two years got out of control, had giant GTP Supercharged stickers on the rocker panel covers and red wire loom over everything in the engine bay. Eventually I grew out of it and removed all that stuff.
