Ok, I know these regulators are known to break when the windows sticks or the wind blows in a strange direction, but can someone tell me how in the hell my passenger side rear regulator broke while sitting in the driveway for the last 2 1/2 days NOT being driven at all and the window not being used probably in the last week???

I mean I can see if I use it all the time and it gives out, but to just be sitting in the damn driveway and break? What a POS, lol.... I took my wife out for dinner tonight and noticed more wind noise than normal and realized that the glass was slowly sliding down on its own. I can hear the motor roll down, but it locks coming up. So now I have some attractive duct tape holding the f**king window up again. I swear I'm going to find the bean-counter at GM that thought this cable driven piece of crap was a good idea and shove it up his briefcase! I have NEVER owned a car that has gone through more regulators than this W-body. Makes me miss my last car that had manual windows. Sure, I couldn't reach the back seat while driving to roll the windows up/down but I sure as hell knew that when I did it would roll up/down as it was supposed to without having to beat on the door or tape the window up!

Ok, I feel better now. Time to drink a beer and go play some Tiger Woods golf on my Wii.

My passenger regulator has gone out once before and seems like it's fixing to do so again. It does annoy the hell out of me. And yah, manual windows never bothered me. Don't mind churning some butter for air.

I never use duct tape to hold a window up i just shove a screwdriver on the inside between the window and panel.

Something is in the air, I had to replace the passenger side regulator in the '01 last week.

I wouldn't tape a window up either, I stick a c clamp in there to hold it up.

I've changed I think three regulators in two years.

Seeing as how it was past 11pm when it decided to drop, it was starting to rain, and I have no garage bays open at the moment the tape is all I could do. Didn't really want to pull the panel off in a hurry and then break something on it too, lol.. That would be my luck. I don't need my only ride right now to have a messed up door seeing as how I still need to get my Bonne running again after it appears to have eaten her fuel pump

The regulator on the passenger rear window broke on my Regal a couple years ago also. It was the cable that snapped on me. Didn't use the window that often and there was no rust on the cable. Went to the junkyard, dismantled a regulator and got a cable for $5. Replaced the cable in my regulator and put a little more lithium grease in there. Problem solved.

It's easy, the little ball on the end of the cable, breaks out of the plastic that holds it. Down goes the window.

92-99 B'villes have metal scissor regulators and hearty motors. Just saying
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

Thanks for the rant! My rear window clunked and dropped a week ago. Nice calif weather (foothills no crime) if it takes you boys an hour or so to fix I'm hoping if I allow all day I just might get it done tomorrow.
Today a window....tomorrow my heads up display (shut off 2 days after warranty expired) 2 years ago, bah!

I've had to replace the front driver twice and all three of the others within 2 1/2 years. The first time the driver broke it tore up the motor too. The front passenger somehow managed to break the cable near the middle and chew it up. Problem probably wouldn't be too bad if I didn't always roll the front windows down, but I just love the wind too much, and the exhaust

The cable on mine broke at about halfway also I think I remember. It appeared to be rubbing on the regulator assembly which was smoothed down since it had been rubbing. Applied some lithium grease on any contact places and the cable I used hasn't broke since.

Well did manage to fix my back passenger window now. Sadly it won't be coming down anytime soon. LOL
Grabbed a piece of wood, measured to make sure it would fit, stuck it in there then beat it in to jam the window up. Heck it works, so no need to fix it right away now.

We've replaced both left-side motors, the right side needs it too. The cable came off on the back one, but the front actually frayed it so bad that it bound the entire assembly up.

And now I know front doors are much easier to work on than back doors. We'll be replacing the right side before too long, the motors are weak, don't know what shape the cables are in.

AFAIK these were the original motors, though, not bad for a 13-year old car.

Replaced my left passenger regulator set! It was Sooooo easy!!! Once I got the panel off which was really nothing to it removal and replacement took me less than 30 min max! I probably spent too much, I bought my stuff at Kragen/ORiley but it was comfortable for me if anything was wrong. Of course I don't have one tool so I used a butter knife with duct tape so I didn't scratch to help get the panel off and had to buy the 10mm wrench thing which is now in my knife drawer for next time ). The only thing I did do wrong was add more silicone to stick the plastic cover back on...it still smells.
Thank you so much for the forum and this site, I couldn't have done it without you <3
