Cant people slow down?!?

First of all this is not entirely my rant. But it kind of is… Yesterday Fargo got its first real snow, and nobody knows how to drive. I was riding in my buddy’s pickup (91 ¾ Ford) we stopped at a stop sign and waited because there was oncoming traffic…. All of a sudden we were slammed forward about a 3 feet. A guy in a little Subaru was either not paying attention or going too fast, and couldn’t stop in time.

Now same thing had happened in this damn town last spring, so we got at the bumper with a lot of gussets and bracing. So fast forward to yesterday, the bumper was scratched a little and has a small bend to it. The Subaru was totaled, when the car hit it started to slide under the bumper crunched the fenders hood and bumper. It was actually pretty sweet to see the car, I got to get the pics from my buddy and I will put them up.

Now why can’t people understand when it snows YOU NEED TO SLOW DOWN!!! I hate driving in Fargo when there is any ice on the roads; nobody slows down, or cares what they are doing. Luckily for the Subaru driver he was wearing a seat belt, so he wasn’t hurt but still SLOW THE F*** DOWN!!!!

That always happens here too. Every year at first snow fall there's like 5 accidents per square mile. It's like half the people forget that snow & ice = slippery roads.

We havent gotten snow here yet, but it was hovering around 32° here the other day and it was raining on my way to work. I drove slowly as anyone with common sense would, but I had several people in traffic come barreling up on me at every stop and slam the brakes at the last second. It's bad enough when people do that on dry pavement, but when it's like it was the other day, I always cringe and brace myself for impact.

In my area too many people just can't drive in it. Get the first snow fall and they creap at what seems 5 MPH. Best part is all the SUVs with AWD or 4x4 driving slower then the little 2 wheel drive cars on the road.

I'm not advocating driving like a mad man in the snow, but if you are so uncomfortable that you have to drive significantly slower then the flow of the traffic on the road ways around you, perhaps you should have stayed at home or called someone who can drive in this weather. Otherwise, I feel driving too slow/not with the flow of traffic can also create some potential unsafe scenarios.

I agree if a person is uncofortable driving in the winter they should stay home or move down with corey. But a person needs to slow down. for a couple reasons.
1. theres ice. its slippery you have a loss of traction
2. Some people are driving slow.
3. usually when its snowing you cant see. it lowers your visibility

I hate people who drive fast in the winter. I'm the guy who takes his time and drives slow. Its not that I'm afraid of driving in the winter.
And the best part is actually when the two wheel drive cars pass me on the road.... 5 miles later I pull them out of the ditch. usually makes my day and pays for my gas.

Tips for snow...

Get winter tires...

disable your ABS, it wont help you anyways.

get ECT somehow?

and drive slow if you can't do any or all of the above.

ABS only comes on when the TIRES can no longer keep traction. get better TIRES and then your ABS wont be a nuisance. 100% fact. if you think you can stop faster than a car with ABS by pumping the brakes then youre heavily medicated.

In snow you want the wheels to lock up for shorter stopping distances.

You still wont have control though.

I have a 97 Z71 that i usually use as a winter vehicle One day last year i was on my way to work and it was snowing pretty good. Already about 6 in on the ground. I had my truck in 4hi doing about 35-45 at times and i had little ford rangers and cars passin me like I was doing something wrong. 2 of the 3 cars that passed me were in the ditch about a mile up the road. I just drove by and laughed cause you shouldnt be stupid when the roads are like that.


Now its a diff story if your on a back road and noone else is around. Then its on

surprised to hear it was a subaru. thats how it happens around here to, the first few snowfalls put cars in ditches, over curbs, anywhere and everywhere. its like people dont realize snow is slippery. in 19, its rediculous when i have to get out and push the 45 year old new england born dumbass out of a snow bank. people


now everyone has to stop talking about subarus, i want one so bad
