Not a fan of the 3rd gen T/As but a 97 SS with the LT1 id go with
I voted for the T/A...but my first and second cars were both f-bodies lol.
Each car has it's pluses and minues.
My Trans Am is a weekend warrior/garage queen...9k miles in 3 years. Built motor, nitrous, built drivetrain, 6-point roll cage, racing seats, 5-point harnesses, no rear seats, etc. I drive her hard, but not as hard as the GTP gets on a regular basis.
My GTP is my daily driver. I drive her hard everyday, and she takes the abuse. 41k miles in less than two years. She's probably getting a massive overhaul this coming spring/summer...Heads, Cam, Intercooler, etc. I think I'm going to explain it to the wife that I needed to "rebuild the motor" because a head gasket blew or something :th_biggrin2:
Dude if you're paying 2500 for a 100k ls1 you're dumb. Jump on over to ls1tech.com and look at ls1's for sale over there.Quote:
The ls1 is a better engine yes BUT for instence theres a 95 firehawk 69k/m6 for a little over 3k
theres also a ls1 engine on a stand for 2500 and you dont even get the stand
and its got over 100k on it
TA. I am not a fan of that body style but everyone and their grandma has a GP.
man, before i bought my second t/a which happened to be a 2000, and in case anyone isnt familiar with fbodies the 98-02 camaro z28/ss and firebird formula/ trans am came with the ls1's, i was thinking about buying an 03 cobra but when it came down to power vs. money the ls1 won. cuz think about it, 03 cobra-375hp around 80k at the time the price was around 11k. 00 t/a- 320hp, 100k price i paid at the time was 7,500. im sorry man but paying another 3500 for 55 hp is not worth it. now at that time if the cobra was at the same price as a t/a then i wouldve jumped on the cobra but since then ive owned two ls1's, one bolt on's and this one i have now is cam only car, well cam and huge intake ;). with the stock intake and injectors it made 410 whp, and with that combo it was restricting the cam so with this new combo im hopeing to get the last little bit out of the cam and i can say from just driving it it feels hellsa more powerful, so im hoping to be about the 420 range. anyways....with my bolt ons ls1 i kept door to door with a cobra that sounded like he had a nice exhaust work done from what i could tell when he piped me, then his s/cer drowned out the exhaust, when i let up i was doing 140. i raced my friend in his girl friends 01 gt with an exhaust, and for the benefit of the doubt it was an auto and a convertible, but at the time i raced him all i had was a CAI and i beat him by at least 5 cars. i raced a friend of mine that had a 400hp fox body, and everytime i raced him he beat me 3 for 3 BUT i missed thrid everytime cuz the stock shifters f***ing suck nuts on those car, but first and second i was nose and nose when i would expect him to me get from a dig every time being more powerful and lighter with a better weight transfer. no mustang owner will EVER convince me that any ford v8 is better then gm v8, ive been there and seen it and felt it with my own eyes and hands whatever. any ls engine responds much better to any upgrade vs. the modular v8. if you can show me a 4.6 respond as well as the ls1 to a cam swap with supporting mods like springs, intake, tune, etc. with out having to do anything to the bottom end and not being race cams so it has to be streetable cams, please show me. other then that it has to be supercharged. gm just released the ls9 this year, the very first supercharged v8 from gm at 6.2l made 630hp. fords shelby 5.4 made 500hp and those are completely redone, from top to bottom, there aint much left to mess with those whereas the ls9 still has plenty to mod. even the new 5.0 are still getting whooped by cam only cars, i read the kill stories all the time on ls1tech. im with others on here, you say 4.6 > ls1, prove itQuote:
If you see more 03/04 Cobras then you see GTP's, then I need to move where you live. I see GP's all the time, but I'm not sick of seeing GTP's because of that fact. GTP's are to GP's, what Cobra's are to Mustangs in simple terms. I see WAY more new edge (99-04) mustang v6's then any other kind of mustang, I'm jealous that you see mostly foxbodys. I wouldn't talk to much **** on them though, more then a few of them would more then likely hand you your ass.
It doesn't have to be a cobra 4.6 to > an lt1. Like oh, I don't know, maybe the mach1's 4.6?.....just sayin:th_thumbsup-wink:
3rd gen fbodies- 83-92Quote:

4th gen fbodies- 93-02, 93-97 lt1, 98-02 ls1 but 01 and 02 got ls6 intake and some got ls6 blocks :) just no ls6 cam or valvetrain :(, gm didnt want a cheap version of their flagship vette.
I voted GTP over TA mainly cause I carry my family around in mine and I really don't like the inside of my firebird...
Have fun buying a newer platform...
An LS1 F body would be worth it because its actually FUN to drive unlike a W body.
I like car.
car is vroom
vroom -> boom
