I always thought that if a car had over 100,000 miles on it, it was basically on its last legs, but now that I've driven a few that have more than that and even double that, I've noticed that it does not really matter. Whats the most you guys have ever had on a car and does it really matter? I know people who think if it has over 100k its no good, but I really hate it when they say that. What do you guys think?

All that matters ..maintenance wise.. is how and if it was taking care of. Proper maintenance increases the life of the car...as well as not putting your foot into it around every corner. I got 150k+ on my current car. Last car hit 200k.

The main thing high mileage affects IMO is retail price.

my 4.3 s-10 before my grand prix had like 183k on it before i got rid of it. basically everything besides the motor and trans needed help. i doubt the drivetrain had much maintenance too, probably factory fluids after 16 years. the grand prix's the same way, the plugs and wires and o2 sensors lasted until about 133k and i'm sure it's on factory coolant and trans fluid. i've owned two of the most dependable cars ever made in my eyes, damn things are bullet-proof

286,000 on 82 S10 that finally had the transmission pilot bearing go.

    256,000 on 92 S10 and sold it.

254,000 on GP and drive it daily

Maintain them and keep them from WOT and they will last. Today's engines will go even longer with the tighter clearances and lower compression(on most with PA) and better oil. No matter how well maintain it is though bushings wear out and gaskets crack. To me those have a limited lifetime, but being able to keep them within certain temps helps. Keeping a car in a garage really helps as well.

Just stated the Chevys I have high mileage on since this is a GM site.

My 02 GTP is my daily driver and I currently have 318,000 miles with
original engine and trans. Though, the miles are mostly highway. Still
    runs great.

the 3800 is a ridiculously reliable motor. keep it tuned up and stay up on your fluid checks and replacement parts and you'll have no worries

Understood, just meant that with all the winter time up there time should be more of a factor than mileage.

Lived in MN for a good portion of my life.
