okay..a few days ago i couldnt put my car into first gear but it would still drive....then the next day, the whole thing went out on me!...no drive...no 1st,2nd, or 3rd gear...only reverse...so i have it towed to a A-Best transmissions to get a trans test or diagnostic run to see wut is wrong with it. Well come to find out. it is an internal problem...the mechanic calls me and sd it would cost about $2672 w/part and labor to repair..$2672!! !...is this guy trying to burn me b/c idk **** about transmissions....this is list of the parts he sd i needed.....TORQUE CONVERTER, FILTER BAND, PUMP ASSEMBLY, BUSHING KIT, REVERSE DRUM, AND INPUT SHAFT. ??? does my car really need all of that!?! would it be cheaper just to get a new tranny...PLEASE GIVE ME ADVICE

you can get a street/strip built trans from tep for around 1500 granted yoou send in your core
and find a shop to install it cheap you will be under that number
but thats a fair price for a shop to charge
but who knows whats really bad they might screw you on what they actually replace
most shops charge for a full rebuild and only install needed parts giving them a back stock of parts

I asked the transmissions guy I've known for years, he used to prep my 1/4 mile transmissions how much would it cost to rebuild the one in my 98 GTP just in case and it's an average of 1,300 USD, but I live way more to the south.

Seriously I would take the transmission there and buy whatever parts needed and give them to the guy at the shop.

Is getting a transmission at the junyard not an option for the newer model GP? I'm not sure if there are many available for that year. I would also try that if the guy at the yard atleast guarantees that it'll run.

San Antonio isn't so far from Laredo and I've shoped for parts in Laredo yunk yards before and they were dirt cheap.

if you do the install work yourself you can have a yard transmission in your car for $500. stop being a girl and get to work.
