$660 rear brake job

did you have the tool? or the clamp like me?

Dude first off. The screw in rear brake calipers are cake. The tool is like 90 bucks from MAC. The older Grand Prixs had them usually the racheting mechanism freezes and you have to install a loaded caliper. If you were saying that when you changed the brakes the pistons got pushed out too far and would only go a half to a quater of the way in it is because the psiton cup was fighting itself. Last time that happened to a rookie I was training I tap it straight with a rubber mallet and pushed it back in.

I thought you just take the old pads, put them on the piston, and use the clamp to push them down, granted the brake reservoir is open. This is what I've done on my 02, 01 and 04 grand prixs. Never heard of the Piston not going back in...

Usually you do except for when they pistons has 2 to four tiny indents into it and the parking brake is part of the caliper then you can spin push and spin push. I did it with needle nose before I bought my tool. Those ten dollar square things work good too.

needless to say, i did not have any tool of the sort, and i got raped as a result...i could really have used that extra $440

I ended up just geting the rear brake kit at harbor tool and frieght was 30 bucks i think came with basically all the differnt sizes of caliper types and the press

Makes wonder what kind of milage is on the car first of all. If its a 2007 when did the warranty expire? 2nd should have done some research before some jack ass towed your car. Yet another reason why I refuse to let anyone touch my car with a wrench but me. Car sitting in the driveway while you worked out the problems could have saved you all the heartache.

47,000 on the car. out of bumper to bumper warranty. i asked the shop that i was going to send it to for a recommendation of a good tow company. haha

Yeah I turn a wrench on my vehicles but I also have a 100k warranty added on to each for 1000 dollars that was added into my loans. Ill happily add a grand for 100k warranty. I got the front diff the swaybars and end links replaced for nothing when my 2004 GMC Envoy started to make noise and handle like ****. My 02 Grand Prix I also had warranty on but not as much I ended up paying for half the bill when the trans went out last march. And I put the differential in when I blew it all over the wet off ramp when I was training in Alabama. Good thing the post I was at had a nice Autos Shop. Anyways I cant believe your car didnt at least have a 60k warranty.
