well, today I took my car to the dealer for an oil change, now before any thing is said the reason I did not do it myself is the pwrtrain is still in warranty. They called me up and suggested a tranny flush, not surprised by that it could use a flush and they also mention there are 2 fittings on the tranny that have a slight leak and would need to be changed. I thank them and declined the work for now (no money) The leak would explain the damp spot in my car port, it was started by my other car and is by no means "wet" but never seems to dry up completely. Anyway lube oil and filter cost CDN$56 and now I need to save up CDN$99.99 labour and fittings and CDN$149.99 for tranny flush and both those prices of course have to have tax added. I DON"T LIKE TAKING CAR IN TO GET SERVICE TO FIND OUT I NEED TO SPEND MORE MONEY!!!!! I know cars meed maintanance so my rant is now done

    Where-abouts are you in Canada?

How many miles on the car? If its less than 150 K i'd leave the tranny alone minus those fittings.

You wouldn't want me to look at your car then. I basically told 2 customers today that they need new cars because there was so much stuff wrong with them. Who lets their car get that bad???

LOL I work at a GM Dealership and get a discount, still do my own work!

And btw servicing(basic maintenance) your own vehicle wont void the warranty, however destruction via a lack of servicing WILL. rules could differ for Canada Warranties but i dont think so.
Although, tearing apart the motor because your forum insisted replacing the LIM prolly WOULD void your motor warranty lol so leave those services to a dealership while under warranty and make sure they put that under warranty

I am in bc and I have 67xxxk on the odo. I was told my tranny fluid was looking dark. they mentioned they recomend a tranny flush every 40,000 to 50,000 k. I do like to do the basic myself but I don't wnat to do ANYTHING that may void the warranty while it has one. Althought I did remove the upper mounts to rotate engine to check plug gaps today, shhhhh no one say anything lmao. I asked about a coolant (engine) flush and they told me the coolant is good for 5 years. I looked at the radiator cap last week and it looks gummy to me, I don't know anything aobut dexcool but it looked like regular water in a steel radiator (not that bad but just some gunk) temp is fine have no issue there and the level is good sooooo idk.

Check the owners manual and you'll see GM recommends a tranny fluid change every 150K, not 40-50...

Since you're still under warranty, that thing should have dex VI which they claim is good for 320 000 KM...

The only mod that can void your warranty is if what you do causes the failure itself.

every 40-50k MILES is accurate for a tranny flush, but no more than 75k MILES if you can help it, just to keep the tranny in the best operating condition, this is what the service managers recommend for all 3 dealerships ive worked in... altho for someone in Canada youd need to convert that to Kilometers.
Not sure how far for a coolant flush on Dex... I know you can flush it without voiding the warranty as long as you put Dex back in it... switching to Green like most people on the forum would recommend will prolly void anything that can be considered coolant related, ex. your head gaskets blow, "Well that is prolly because of the change in coolant, had you been running Dex-cool like your suppose to, this might not have happened, so the warranty will not cover this" is what youd most likely hear from a service adviser in the shop... not that it had ANYTHING to do with it, but its not factory, thusly to blame... its dumb but thats how it goes

Most of the manuals ive gone thru, show 0 miles - 80k miles... at 100,000miles it all starts over, the recommended procedure is to check everything at 50k and if needing it, service it, if not wait til 100k and then service everything to keep it top-notch... but hey, its your car, and your money, do it as you please

Dudes in Canada... KM, not Miles.

    Straight from the owners manual:

    50,000 Miles (83 000 km)
Change automatic transaxle fluid and filter if the vehicle is mainly driven
under one or more of these conditions:
    – In heavy city traffic where the outside temperature regularly reaches
    90F (32C) or higher.
    – In hilly or mountainous terrain.
    – When doing frequent trailer towing.
    – Uses such as found in taxi, police or delivery service.
If you do not use your vehicle under any of these conditions, change the fluid
and filter at 100,000 miles (166 000 km).
So if you grandma your car, 100 000 miles, if you beat it like it owes you money, 50K miles.

Parents 01 3.5 RL has 189K miles on the original tranny fluid.

    No tranny issues.

Now I don't condone that because I doubt it'll hit 200 but they plan on getting rid of it by then anyways.

95% of its life has been cruising at 65 mph, no real hills.

thanx for the info. I have been meaning to reading the manual over agian lat couple days, I figured it a little early and the leak is not that bad. I might just leave it until it needs it and get it all done. Just remember to check the level on it regularly. I know dealers (some not all) will tell u anything to get the job done. I do know about the fittings, the more I thought about it I remembered when I first got the car I was all over it and I did notice the moist fittings on the tranny. Anyway I will keep my eye on it and I might start changing my oil and using synthetic is this car like my last
