He's probably being truthful. My brother's laptop got the Antivirus System PRO virus last week. Everytime you click on anything on your computer it pops up saying your computer is infected and you need to buy the program to delete it. It even pretends like its scanning your computer. He had to take it to Staples and they ran through the computer and had to remove it. Once you get it, you can't really do anything on your computer. It completely interrupts EVERYTHING you try to do.

Yea, I'm a software engineer, I also help my friends with their computers and this is a virus I've seen on some of them. One thing I always say, unless you opened the window TO buy something on purpose (ebay n stuff) NEVER TYPE OUT CREDIT CARD OR BANK INFO. >_<

I believe it. I've seen it. Conspiracy theory here. Anti-virus companies make viruses to market anti-virus software. It's all about money. If I wanted to make an anit-virus software, I would make a virus that my anti-virus program removes. Instant profit.

yea be careful when you push download, and read the windows that pop up before you push anything. I've had these kinds of programs on my relatives computers all the time. It's a pain to get off. There were some strong programs on the net that scan and remove anything that could be seen as hazardous. Just be smart about what you click.

The most common way to get this type of virus is when you try to view a video on a website. It will ask you to download a "codec" and as soon as you click the link to do so... you're screwed.

Malwarebytes, and AVG can be your friends when crap like that happens, and both are free too.

Yea even though AVG Antivirus is a free software, I've used it on my laptop since I've had it for about 2-3 years now and haven't had a problem on it once.
