i agree... extremely unprofessional on the police officers' part but the part that asks if this will have an affect on the case of the guy who got busted is crazy... them being unprofessional has no relation to the guy having a ton of drugs and stolen stuff.
Cops have down time while doing that stuff....I mean lets be honest! When your at work most of you guys who can get online cause you have nothing better to do! lol...Soooo the same goes for them! I think its great!
Cops playing their own video game would be unprofessional but do not real harm. These cops, on the other hand, essentially seized (by using) property that wasn't part of their search warrant. That's a little beyond unprofessional IMO.
What happens in a courtroom has little to no relation to common sense or what's right. Right or wrong, a good lawyer could argue to get the evidence thrown out.
cops should get punched in the face, criminal dude goes to jail. nuff said
Why? So all the people who get online and check the forums and play games at work should get fired and punched in the face? Im sorry...I have ALOT of friends in law enforcement and well its pretty boring job! Its not like they didn't do there job people was writing down evidence while others searched. They did there job. One of my closes friends is ALWAYS on his cell phone cause being a cop in a rural town or somewhere that most stuff don't happen is BORING! could you imagine sitting in a car for 8+hrs...doing NOTHING! O well!!! They had extra time and had some fun so be it! THANK YOU FL COPS FOR GETTING DRUGS OUTTA THERE AND PUTTING CRACKHEADS AWAY!
Yes, you are not getting paid to be online, talking to friends, or playing, thats what your OWN time is for.
If there was enough officers there, the ones playing wii should have left the scene and continued on with more important issues, or searched the house more.
There is always something to do, and it was YOUR choice to become a police officer, you know the upsides/downsides, so don't ***** about it when it happens.
Plain and simple, the cops were WRONG.
Its soooo funny that most people who don't like cops are the ones who ALWAYS get in trouble! Not saying you guys do! Do you not relize that they wasent your everyday COP! Chances are they was from a side wing like SWAT or the DEA or something like that most "hometown cops" don't do stings. If they said we are going to have 50 people do a sting guess what! Those 50 people have to stay there! I think you guys are being VERY harsh! They did there job! They busted some drug dealers! I think its pretty flunked up cops put there life on the line EVERYDAY and don't make crap for money while the pro football ppl and "famous" people make millions of dollars! Well not only Cops but the people serving our country firefighters all of them! I have respect for law enforcement and find it VERY funny they did that...do I think they should be fired? NO! They did the job they was sent there to do! Should they be "punched" in the face NO!! And ya this can go on and on but I will stand by what I believe in..and IMO its not a big deal! They did the job in hand!
EDIT: O and I know about rmmm 5-7 people that get on this forum WHILE they are at work! Soooooo I guess you guys are saying that they should be fired and they don't do there job.

To the people defending these cops: How would you feel if someone (cop or not) went into your house and used your personal property while you weren't there? As I said before, the biggest problem isn't that they were playing games, it's that they were playing games on the suspect's system. They had no right to use his property in that manner.
Well since Im the only one defending the cops....If they came to my house cause I was a drug dealer...chances are that TV or game console was stolen! LOL. Its not like they just was like HEY lets go play Wii!! lol They had a purpose to go there...they went there..it took them 6hrs took lo and bag up everything..they got bored..omg!! THEY ARE PEOPLE! We do "stupid" stuff when we are bored. Im pretty sure everyone of you has at one point or another use the net at your work while on the clock..or used your cell phone when you was told not to! How about you thank them for getting drugs outta that place if there was a drug dealer near me and cops busted them and wanted to play Wii soooo be it!!! They got those crack heads away from me and my child! I guess again me "defending" them is because well for one...I have ALOT of friends in law enforcement and two its not THAT big of a deal!!! Its not like they was caught snorting the drugs! Or having a gang bang!!!
That would've made an epic headline.
I have to agree with SlowM90. Was it stupid? Of course, they should've known better. Should they get fired for it? Hell no. It would be one thing if they had been warned before, but if they are otherwise good agents they should get a few days suspension without pay at most IMO. Even that seems too much honestly. As long as nothing was broken or stolen, who cares? I bet even the dealer they busted doesn't REALLY care except if it could somehow help his case.
If the agents don't get fired, Atleast they'll come away from this with an important lesson:
Always check for web-cams before playing Wii after a bust.
So, according to you, he's guilty (of both drug dealing and now theft) until proven innocent? Even if he is found guilty, it doesn't give the police or anyone else the right to take his property for their own personal use.
Acutally, no. I'm expected to uphold a standard of integrity and professional conduct. I believe people who have the ability to deprive citizens of property, liberty, and life, and are charged with protecting those same rights, should be held to a similar standard.
I'm in the Navy, and we did have a similar case (people playing video games on work computers) at another training command. Over 100 people were questioned, around 50-ish attended non-judicial punishment, and over 20 were either removed from the program or discharged from the Navy. (It was a while ago, so I don't remember the exact numbers.)
A four star admiral (one of the most senior in the Navy) then flew to the other training commands in the program to brief us on the incident. His main concern wasn't that some of the people were playing games on government computers, but that several others knew about it but did nothing about it.
I thank them for enforcing the law. However, I hold every cop there (not just the ones who actually played the game) responsible for not enforcing the laws against going into someone's home and using their property without their permission or legal justification.
I have a great deal of respect for police officers. I understand that enforcing the law while protecting citizen's rights is a tough, dangerous, and often thankless job. However, when they cross the line and violate a suspect's rights, they cross the line that separates them from the criminals. That system is the suspects property until proven otherwise, and they violated his rights by using it. More than an isolated incident, this is an indication of habitual dereliction throughout the organization. Any solution needs to focus on restoring a culture of integrity and professionalism.
So, what do I think should happen? I think all of the officers who were present should receive at least an official written reprimand (or something similar, I don't know much about how police are disciplined). The cops who actually played the game should receive a more severe punishment (e.g. suspension). I don't believe any of them need to lose their jobs.
Lakeland, wich is in Polk county, has the most "nasty" crap come from there. Huge pedo busts, drugs, murders, all that junk is huge in Lakeland, I live an hour from Lakeland, and have some good frinds that live there, been there many times. The crime there is anything less than boring. I do not condone what they did, but it has been blown out of proportion. If that camera was not there, and this was never recorded, it would not have been an issue.
Soooo its okay for firefighters to play basketball, wii, xbox and just chill until a fire...butttt cops cant do the same? Its just SOOO funny how you guys are treating this like they killed someone! Also you might wanna brush up on your laws...they was there with a search warrent EVERYTHING in that house could be used for evidence. I have no pitty for a drug dealer and his "personal" property! It apparently wasent a big deal or they would have been fired! They are people! They was bored they played Wii!!! They did the job they was sent there to do! WHO CARES?!?!?!?!?! How about we rant on the guy who raped and killed his 8month old baby! Just because they are "cops" and they are ALWAYS under the public eye we are going to bash them because they did something that almost EVERYONE has done! Most everyone on here at one point in there job has got online or there cell phone when told not to.
First of all, you're comparing TWO COMPLETELY different jobs, It WOULD be the same if a firefighter went to a burning house and instead of worrying about the fire they said "Hey guys, look, a basketball hoop!! Let's play 21!!"
Actually, No. Not everything in the house can be used for "Evidence" Unless they had belief that there was DRUGS INSIDE THE WII, there is NO REASON to have even touched it, LET ALONE turned IT, and the T.V ON.
A. Drug dealer OR not, still a human being, still a person who has RIGHTS, just because they choose a different life style/path doesn't strip them of there rights.. depending on the severity of the crime, not everyone who chooses criminal life path is a horrible person.
B. No, I don't believe they should be Fired IF it is a first time violation, just like people who make mistakes, warnings, and some actions should be taken, repeatable offenses cause for greater consequences.
Cops or not, I don't care who you are or what you're doing, you are at WORK, not at home, not at a friends house, you are ON THE CLOCK at a GOVERNMENT Job.
That may be true, doesn't make it right one bit. Unless your job description allows you to do so, you have no right to be wasting your employers time and money being spent on YOU.
