Is it really that cool, or whatever the kids are saying these days, to hurt someone else? It seems like everywhere I go there's someone desperate to prove something at the expense of another persons safety or health. How deep does the pit in you have to go before you find pride in harming other people? How little of life can you possibly see, when you're bragging about the ability to hurt someone? Is life really that bad? What's that like??

Maybe I just don't get it. I've always had a hard time really getting into the whole mindset. I've never tried to punch a kid for taking my place in line to the slide. I never broke a guys arm for calling me names. I've also never punched a pet screaming at it to respect me, or slapped my wife for talking or whatever it is people do now. I've never been so small that I needed someone to hurt. I've never been so empty that I had to fill the hole with someone's fear.

Or maybe I don't have it. I've never been "diagnosed" with "it's fine to just punch people because you don't bother to handle your problems like a man" syndrome. I never was screened for "how dare that guy throw a cigarette near me so now I have to shoot him" disorder. In fact, I've never even seen the literature for "he started it-tosis". Maybe it's ok if you beat the crap out of a crying child as long as a doctor gave you an excuse, err... "diagnosis".

It's starting to look like everyone wants it though. Certainly everyone has it. They all seem really proud of it. Some guy took my parking space so I shot him with one of the hundreds of guns I own. That will teach him to drive somewhere and park between lines. Oh yeah good job, you're the king of respect mountain. I wish I had even more guns. Guns make you a man.

Is everything now just a one up race to see who can do the most unnecessary amount of harm to another person? There are threads on this forum right now that read like a prank.
post 1: This guy spilled soda on my car so I ran him off the road and hit him a bunch.
post 2: I would have hit him until my arms got tired!
post 3: I would have cut hit leg tendons, but I'm more hardcore than most.
post 4: I'd have broke his back and stabbed his girlfriend, because I R more hardcore.
post 5: You should have shot him. I have a gun. Gun make fire.
post 6: I would have shot him and a random shopper at the store nearby because my gun in bigger.
post 7: I would have had to shoot up a hospital nursery with a bigger gun then all of you because I have sub human excuse syndrome.
post 8: I wish I had that, you're so hardcore.

I was recently part of a fight in a diner. I dropped my keys out of my pocket on the floor near one of these people. By the time I had turned, with my head down, to look at the floor, he had jumped up and started shouting "what's your problem?". He was one of these people. One hand furiously going in a pocket, the other flailing about his face like he saw a guy on television do once. I bent down, got my keys, and apologized. He said it was way too late for that, and that I obviously needed to be taught a lesson, or some sad cliche.

So, to many, I was given the choice of "it", whatever that means, being him or me. In this situation, I think most people would get excited. Because they would know they had an open excuse to hurt this man. They would only worry about what the cops would say when it was over. No one would wonder what set that guy off. No one would care that he was acting irrationally. Not a person would think, maybe there's something wrong.

And so I stood there thinking too. I thought there was no way this guy knows what he's doing. I thought I could see waves of fear from his face. I thought just maybe he's been afraid I'm one of those people that just wants to hurt him for no good reason, and he's just trying to get it over with. And finally I stood there and let him punch himself tired, then sat down and talked to the man. He had a story after all. I hope that guy is ok. Did I handle that wrong?

No, I will admit I have a temper...And alot of my temper comes from the fact that I ALWAYS let people run me over and I kinda got tired of it. So now...I tend to NOT bite my tongue and let them know how I feel. I dont go around hitting people! I have only been in 2 fist fights and those was in school! I do agree there is ALOT of MEAN in this world! My cousins son got pushed down and kicked...he is in Kindergarten!!!! The boys who did it was mad because he got some award!!! I think that just stems back to the parents. Most people who are so mean that young HAVE to see it while at home!! I think you did the write thing! You showed him not everyone is a "tuffguy". I give you props!

Awsome job with the way you handled that. If it were me, I don't know how I would havw handled it because I try not to get into those situations. Now reading your post, If I were to, maybe I will handle it the same as you. Back when I was a truck driver, I had a bad case of road rage. The smallest thing someone would do that I thought was putting me in danger, I woupd snap. Not anymore though. Like you said, what does it prove. Nothing. It is not worth it anymore.

Great way to handle that. It would have been very different in my shoes. Would I have shot him...by no means no, but he would have seen what a open flat-top grill was up close and personal.

Do you mean you let him punch you until he wore himself out? There are plenty of people out there who can do serious damage with a couple of punches. If you had fought back, it wouldn't be about proving who's the bigger man but about defending your life and health.

{I've personally been arrested for beating my child. at an airport, at the gate, my child to me to "f*ck off" when I told them to sit down in the chair/bench. So, Lil Boi got a smack across the face. (Just ONE, open handed, with not even 1/4 of the strength i use to cut a knife through butter). Now, a Flight Attendant called security on me, and I was charged with "Child Endangerment." When I was taken to a security room in the back, and full body searched (minus cavities), I was sat down and questioned. No one seemed to understand while my child deserved a smack to the face that caused no harm but a "pink cheek" for a few minutes and a crying hissy fit. Finally, I got to speak to the Port Authority, and it went something like this...

"Because of the rampant **** that goes on today in America, is the reason we need half of the damned security measures we do. There is more tax payer money invested into school security measures like metal detectors (which visitors to the school DON'T have to walk through) than frigging BOOKS in the damn school. Now, You can sit here now on the high horse of law, and charge me with endangerment of a child or assault of a minor, or even domestic violence if you please. I guarantee you this. When im behind bars, and that child grows up, he will become the next "D/C Sniper" because 1) you put his daddy in jail, and either granted him a reason to hate you, or 2) gave him a ticket to do whatever the fu*k he pleases, as there is no daddy there to discipline the child. So, solving one "issue" may cause many more down the road. I then proceeded to examine the "examiner" in his 50's, with a "rough" "Clint Eastwood-ish" face, and stated..."and I'm sure to HELL half of the scars on your face are NOT from Shaving Knicks from your razor blade... I'm sure to hell YOUR teacher, mother, grandmother, grandfather, or dad beat the living **** out of you... and I'm sure to this day, you thanked them for it as well, for it put you where your at now.

5 Minutes later, I was released and caught the next flight out...
The next time my child told me he'd call the Police on me.. I told him, "here's the phone, don't forget the number is 911, and I'll see you on the corner somewhere in 20 years."

{Not everyone NEEDS to be a "tuffguy", no. But some people just NEED to be put into their place and realize that there are people out there who may take your isht, and people out there who WONT, PERIOD. Maybe the situation worked for him... taking a few blows from this guys fists (assumed from how it was stated... "And finally I stood there and let him punch himself tired"... but not everyone, especially someone who doesn't have time to play "dr phil" will be as tolerant.

Is it right, maybe not. Is it mature, probably not from someone who has the time to observe. Does it accomplish anything, not entirely, then again, what does accomplish anything in today's world? Is it right... thats left up to the interpreter. The Reader. You.

No Offense is meant by any of this. Some of the first quotes "[...]" lines were meant for laughing purposes only, not to say that this is anything funny, but the idea came across to me as funny because I'm a guy that likes to laugh. Don't like it... I don't care "my guns much bigger than yours" anyway.

    Just my .20 to the $1.00 ...

If you don't see the correlation of kids growing into out of hand adults, I'll just let this one die...
