What all do I need to do to get decent traction with this car? It's an 00 GTP with a smaller pulley, tune, etc.

Typically, I'll launch gently and lean into the throttle. With my 97 Formula, the chassis is all hooked up and there is minimal wheelspin, maybe at the most a bit at the top of 3rd gear (T56).

My GTP just seems to barely hook, it spends more time smoking the tires than anything else.

I'm thinking about adding a larger tread width tire but what the eff do I have to do to get this car to just hook and go instead of just wasting these stock size tires?

I've read about airbags in the rear, 1 inch shorter dog bones (pretty much universally maligned on this forum) etc.

Guess I'll see what they can fit on the stock rims and go from there.

I don't hit it until 25 or so, this car just smokes the tires. My previous GTP, also an 00, didn't have this much torque. Other than the tune they're identical.

    Then tires it is.

I ran Cooper CS4's a few years ago and those things hooked up great from 10-15mph on.

Slicks are about the only thing that will drastically help. I've tried different sized tires, different tires, etc...I now just use cheap 225/60 tires for driving. Slicks for racing.

What coil/strut package you running? New tires and strut/coils.

Track day with slicks, stiff. Street pulls with HP A/S or Summer soft.

If budget allows go to 245-45/18 tires on 18x8 rims. The wider rubber did a lot for me to help limit wheelspin. Also check struts as noted....when you launch, the car wants to "dig", ie the rear goes down and the front goes up. One of the challenges with FWD cars....if the struts/springs are too soft, they will allow the rear suspension to compress too much and the front to come up too much....and when you unload the front you get wheelspin. Stiffer suspension limits that body travel and keeps the weight on the front tires.

Suspension mods help greatly. I second 5FDP on the cooper tires. I had the CS4 on my NA 04 GT and loved them. I have the CS5 V rated on my Comp G and they hook up well. They are affordable and great in the snow also!

depending on your setup their really isnt much you can do besides not slam into it too early. On all seasons I can't go WOT before 35 without it breaking them loose. If you NEED traction, then get some mickey t's.

It's a small one, not sure off the top of my head, definitely smaller than the one I put on my first GTP.

I can light up my winter or summer tires in first gear at anything below 30. I ended up installing a Racelogic Traction Control. Best mod I have ever done to my car. They are discontinued but you can buy used ones or other aftermarket traction control systems. Otherwise learn to pedal the car out of the hole and buy the softest, stickest tires you can find. Traction on these cars is a challenge!
