Well, here's a back story. I tune local cars for a bit of extra spending money. So far ive done about 11 local cars and a couple that i tune that are not so local. Basically, they send me scans and i make adjustments.

I tuned a local guy with a 3.4 setup (3.4 pulley, ported blower and TB, Headers, etc.) When scanning the car i noticed that the O2 sensor was reading wrong. Instead of going back and fourth from low to high, it was hovering around 450 no matter what throttle position it was in. His rear O2 was also deleted. I told him multiple times not to do any wot pulls until he got it replaced. The next day, i see that he went 130+ on the highway. I called him out on it saying he will blow his **** up if he keeps doing it. Didn't listen and a couple weeks later, it blew up. i know, surprise surprise. He blames the tune and swaps in a new motor. Then asks if i have an o2 extension so he can replace the sensor. To my knowledge he never replaced the sensor and blew the car up again. Apparently its totally my fault and i'm the worst tuner ever. What he doesn't realize is, it doesn't matter who tuned it because it would have blown up regardless. At least i had several other guys i tuned for stick up for me. This pisses me off so bad because i told him to fix the issue and he didnt. Then he gets on facebook with his brother and just talks **** because they think they know it all. I dont ask a ton for tuning, just gas and a little money for my time. I do it as a favor for my local 3800 guys, so they can spend their money on other parts and enjoy the dying platform. I do realize that if i tune lots of cars, this kind of **** will happen but, his tune was rather safe. IE, stock timing tables, PE and other fueling was tuned a little rich to be safe, ETC. I've no problem posting the bin file so other tuners can go over it to see what changes i made.

    End Rant.

I would just refuse business at that point.

Can only Band-Aid mechanical issues for so long. 450 stagnant o2 probably is just a shot sensor anyways...or it needed the rear o2 being an 01+ car.

Either way, based on your personal car...I'd assume your tuning is just fine. Can't fix stupid though. ****ing kids will be ****ing kids.

Exactly, now if i tune, it will be for friends only. No more walk ins. It was an 03 btw. Ive tuned my car, a friends turbo e85 car, a supercharged e85 xp cam car, a few bolt on 3.4 setups, etc and that car is the only one thats blown up.

Not tuning his car anymore period. If he cant do basic maintenance or listen to someone who clearly is right, he can have someone else tune his ride.

sounds like he did tell him to get it replaced, and he didnt listen.

ive had similar issues with a few guys, one i noticed the o2 was reading off, like your guys did. 15 minutes later it threw a code for it. well, we cant tune it like this. replace it come back deal. and he did.

another guy shows up with exhaust leaks to the point the dp blows apart if he gets on it.

another guy off the regal board shows up with vac leaks. good thing i went over his set up first.

John Wayne once said, "Life is hard, it's really hard if you are stupid." I know a guy who was going to tune a car, but the car had low compression because the supercharger pulley was too small for the mods, engine ended up getting replaced.

    Had "Low Compression" lol.

Something else just came to my mind just now. If the tune was the issue, why did he re-use the pcm instead of going somewhere else?

the tuner had him check the compression before he would make any adjustments. every time I thought something was wrong with my tune, it was just a mechanical problem.

My '03 was a total pain in the ass.

Mine did the same thing...pegged fuel trims. NEEDED an o2 in the back. Once it got it, car ran fine.

Man, IF I ever run into something like this and am in the middle of tuning something I'll set it back to stock and make them get it fixed then there's no real way to blame anyone.

Exactly why I don't tune vehicles on the side for random people.

I've only done a few vehicles because they were my co-workers or super close friend and I knew everything about the vehicle before hand.

One out of eleven? I would take that as good tuning.
and it's only a 3800 he can stop making big deal about it. a free weekend and $150.00 for an engine and he is back in business.

Its actually 1 out of 13 because i tune a couple cars for some friends out of state. but still, youre right. long blocks in my area are around 75 to 150 from the local pick and pull.

Nope. The worst part was no scan gauge or any form of gauge that monitors KR. I know a scangauge would have saved his engine. that or replacing the damn o2 sensor

I should have figured he didn't have a wideband as he can't even replace a $28.00 sensor. lol

Right, a $28 part cost him $300 to $400 in new engines and fluids. This is why we make sure our cars are taken care of 100% before modding.
