Re: The craziness that was my Saturday morning
theres a house in the town i grew up in on a retarded corner, the house got hit 2 or 3 times by crashing cars. so they bought and installed get this, old train tracks cut into posts spaced 3 foot X 6 foot deep and 5 foot up, down the whole side walk ( its a corner house) then added a hedge to cover them up. those rails have saved the house from countless attacks since they were installed lol

Re: The craziness that was my Saturday morning
I heave heard these stupid things about people suing because homeowners put large boulders in the way so they don't get their houses driven through and the driver of the car drove into it and got hurt or killed. Some have even won in court. I would like to find those jurors and make them live in a place like that and see if it changes their mind. One person here argued that if the driver hadn't been drunk or speeding excessively then he would have still been alive to that day. He turned around and sued the dead guys estate and family (they had had a party and he left there drunk) that brought the suite and he won. About all it payed for was court costs and his lawyer but it's better than nothing I guess. about 6 months later someone else hit the boulder and was OK but tried to sue, this time it was thrown out.

Re: The craziness that was my Saturday morning
sounds a lot like these morons, parents want to sue because they think the cops failed to save them from drowning,,,hey guess what, they stole a car and ran from the cops, to f ing bad your dumb kids are all dead. if you raised them right guess what, they would not be dead now.

Ouch! Thank God nobody was hurt, you'll get it all put back together in due time. Could have been a lot worse.

The county should sue their parents for polluting the pond and the owner of the accord should sue for the value of the vehicle.
Re: The craziness that was my Saturday morning
sorry to hear this. at least the car didnt get the structure. one thing that comes out with me when i hear loud noises at 230 am is mr. glock.
Re: The craziness that was my Saturday morning
I figures I'd post some updates to this. I haven't heard from the cops since the night following the incident so I don't have any updates on a trial or anything like that. The landlord apparently tried several times to get in touch with the officers in charge of the investigation to no avail as well, but decided to get the repairs done, then try to figure out who was paying for it later.
They came out and dug the footer about 2 weeks ago. They ended up having to wait out the weather forecast of all the damn rain to pour concrete, but finally was able to get that done. Also, being that they had to order a minimum of 5 yards of concrete they poured me some sidewalks while they were at it. Even put a small "patio" in the notch by my basement entrance.

A few days later block was laid

Came out a day or two later and laid the form and steel decking in preps for the concrete deck.

Yesterday they poured the concrete for the deck, and again due to minimum concrete order requirement added on and made a patio out back

They decided on having the jacks as the support posts. There are decorative covers you can get for them for your finished look. They still need to do stairs and railing to be finished, but at least I have a usable porch now. Only other things they have to do is get the garbage from the old porch, cribbing blocks, etc out of here and final "landscaping" of the top soil around the sidewalks and I should be back to "normal."
Re: The craziness that was my Saturday morning
Glad to see everything is getting fixed up.
Re: The craziness that was my Saturday morning
sometimes it pays to get your house hit, you have a much nicer pouch now for sure. and sidewalks to go with it all.
i was thinking the posts looked a lot like jack studs lol
Re: The craziness that was my Saturday morning
Crap that was a lot of damage and work. Looks much better now. Sweet bonus on those added concrete spots :th_thumbsup-wink:
Re: The craziness that was my Saturday morning
Looks good. And to see a landlord putting time/money/effort into their rental is good to see too.
Re: The craziness that was my Saturday morning
Well, I went to a hearing today for this incident. I didn't even have to speak/testify. Hell, I didn't even have to step foot in the court room, but the driver was given house arrest, probation, and has to pay restitution.
Re: The craziness that was my Saturday morning
so he had no insurance then....way to go guy lol
Re: The craziness that was my Saturday morning
Re: The craziness that was my Saturday morning
Well, I thought I had mentioned it, apparently I did not, but the car wasn't even his. This also wasn't his first DUI.
Re: The craziness that was my Saturday morning
aka one who has not learned a thing yet from his actions lol
Re: The craziness that was my Saturday morning
And from hearing the conversation the officer was having with him he was arrested for theft of some sort at one point too....
