rock the engine forward, use a ratchet strap, you can see pretty good back there.

    Actually, its fairly easy!

I put Pacesetters on and everything I read (everywhere) said it was gonna be a nightmare. Turned out to be one of the simplest things I've done. Maybe it's just me... But no bending Tranny dipstick tube, no taking cross member off, no leaks afterwards, etc., but honestly, Headers IMO are one of the best $ for $ upgrade/mods for the car.

Headers are super simple. Hardest part is denting the firewall if you SD it. Gimme 13 beers at 2am and I'll crawl under there with an air hammer. Just saying...lol

Let's get back to chargers for a second.

The MXX designation is the amount of cubic inches of air moved per revolution by the charger. Therefore when you talk Gen 3 M90 vs Gen V M90, you are moving the same amount of air per revolution on both. The primary difference is the efficiency, a Gen 3 M90 and Gen V M90 driven the same with the same pulley will have a large difference in heat. The Gen 3 will burn a hand, the Gen V will not. The difference in air temp makes a large difference in density/ability of an engine to run more timing and have more power.

You do not need more flow mods to run a Gen V than a Gen 3. Typically though we mod further and therefore people are used to seeing more flow mods. The mods needed to run a Gen V vs a Gen 3 are tapping the L67 TB for an evap port in front of the throttle plate, but behind the maf, cutting the LIM slightly for the proper sized opening, 3 SC bolts are longer on Gen V, and getting a TB adapter.

It is possible to fit a stock intake box/tube onto the TB in the different location. Fuel rails fit perfectly over a Gen V and all other things are the same. One note: 97/98 W body or 97-99 other bodies do require some alternator clearancing.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

Over all everything is better on the Gen V. What i would say matters the most is how far you want to go with the build if all you wanna do is a basic 3.4 setup you will be good with the Gen 3 and spend the cash on some headers & other supporting mods just my .02

No need to go Gen V

I was barely modded with a P log 3 inch downpipe and 3.5 pulley on a gen 3. Once I upgraded to a gen 5 the biggest difference I noticed was top end. The car takes longer to lose its breath and accelerates decently to 100mph+.
    2000 Bronze Metallic GTP

Gen 5 > gen 3 all day long. The wine is much more prominent on the 5 over the 3. I did a cam at the same time (thanks Bill), so I'm not quite sure of the power difference of the gen 5 alone. Although the s1x and gen 5 with a 3.4 pulley feels like at least 50whp over a rockered gen 3 with the same pulley.. Gen 5 all the way!
