and stick to the sem brand, I have been told by a few upholsterers about issues with other brands

for this, i intend to use SEM since i should be able to match factory colors. On other projects (PC related) i've used the duplicolor vinyl/fabric dye with excellent results, but i think it depends on what you're trying to cover.
