http://www.grandprixforums.net/safel...car-17482.html read this my guy and it will tell you everything you wanna know
^^^That /thread
that still dint tell me what i could drop down to with no other mods
ok well since you skimmed that.. imma tell you.... unless you get a tune headers an a few other odds and ins you cant drop a pulley without blowing some chit up
i have a cold air intake, thats it. my dad has my same car just a 97 and he is running a 3.5 with no problems. All he has is a cold air intake and exhaust.
Tell ya what, do what you can afford. Let us know about the results.
Okay.
Yes you can just drop to a 3.4, no one is stopping you.
Is the motor going to be happy?
No.
These car has KR (knock retard) from the factory, you are only going to make it worse by adding more air that the car already struggles to get out. So in a short time, you will grenade the motor and be looking for a junkyard one and saying to yourself "why did that happen".
So if you want to drop pulley sizes you must do it the right way. Flow mods first, like headers for example.
Read around on this forum, you will learn why its a big deal to add flow before you add air.
can i drop to a 3.5 with just a cai or will that hurt the motor is what im asking? my dad hasnt had problems but that dont mean it isnt hurting the motor
thank you so just cold air intake and open up the exhaust and i should be able to run a 3.5 with out any problems?
The different between 3.4 and 3.5 is so minimal, both are still not doing the motor good.
Stock is 3.8, stick with that for now, untill you get some flow mods.
one more question does anyone know the HP gain from dropping from stock to a 3.5, i mean is it even worth it?
so by just putting some performance mufflers and taking the resanator out wont help ant? do you have to buy headers?? thanks for the help by the way
Nope, changing the mufflers or removing the resonator will not help at all.
You have 2 options.
Either buy a Powerlog front manifold and a 3in downpipe or go straight to some SS Auto Chrome headers. Both will run you about the same cost. But headers will always be the better choice.
Just do some reading and you'll figure it all out.
i just realized i live rite by you in wisconsin!! but ok thanks for the help
