LOL I am biased cause I currently drive a 97, own a 08, and I have owned a 98 and 01. Really any year is gonna have its quirks. Just look at several. Find one you like and go with it. There are a few subtle differences between the series II bodystyle. For issues It's honestly how the previous owner maintained it.

With the age/mileage of the car you are going to want to check suspension bushings, for leaks(lower intake manifold and valve covers appear to be popular). Anything else mechanical or that has a pulley on it. The tranny's tend to be fairly weak for an individual who enjoys spirited driving. So keep that in mind with regard to the owner. Other than that it's any other issue you will find on a car that has been neglected.

98-2000 preferably for modding. 01+ have new pcm tweaks that are a pita to tune with. Not saying it can't be done.. But it's just a hassle

I would go 99-00, just cause the 98 coolant bottle makes it hard for a cai.

CAI and FWI are two separate things.

So what you guys are really saying... If you want a FWI then 98+, but if you want a CAI setup then go with a 99+.
