Um, flywheel hitting the flexplate? You damn well better get a second opinion, because your car does not have a flywheel and a flexplate, it has a flexplate only. They are essentially the same thing and you do not have both. If you have a automatic transmission you have a flexplate, if you have a manual you have flywheel. The only thing that the teeth touch either way should be the starter gear which retracts when you're not cranking the car over.

Find a new shop.
