I head somewhere that GM either sold or gave up the names of all the brands except pontiac, so its possible. But they are bringing the Holden cars that the G8 was based off of here in a couple years and calling them the SS sedan and the truck could be the new El Camino. Theres also a wagon.

Not this FVCKING thread again... Look at the 2012 Regal GS and tell me Pontiac is dead. Its a name, just like the Camaro's, I'm sure someone will ruin it again someday.

They havnt even paid back the government loan completely how on earth does anyone think they would bring anything back when they really still need to trim more phat to be profitable, they are making headway but it will take years and a crap ton of sales before they could ever think about bringing another brand back.

Only way I see Pontiac coming back in any form is some special edition Firebird/Trans Am. Thats about it people. For as much as we plead and wish they would return there dead. GM ruined the brand when they decided to put everyone together. The moment our beloved GTO become Australian you should have known they were a goner. Although I must say I do love the Aussia cars, but saying GM cannot make there own designs anymore is kind of underrating them I think. Who's the one who pays Holden? Who owns Holden? Oh yeah..... GM. There is my 2 cents.

At least the new regal is up to 255 HP. Probably can't get the more powerful Opel or Holden engines here because of emissions. I was at a Buick dealer almost a year ago looking at the 2011 Buick Regal. I asked what engine was in it. The salesman said a 182 HP 4cyl. I laughed and said you got to be kidding. My 98 Regal has a 240 HP supercharged V6. The salesman looked like a ghost and then said they're going for fuel economy. The sad thing is, my old Regal probably gets better realistic fuel mileage than the new 4cyl Regal. I know my 2010 Malibu gets worse fuel mileage and throttle response is terrible. I curse at it everyday, but I don't have to work on it so I deal for now.

I just seems like an insult to bring the regal down to a 4 cyl. I've driven a lot of different cars including regal so I know what it's capable of, so I too, laughed at 182 hp.

I was going to post this at: http://www.grandprixforums.net/could...k-2-47645.html, but the forum disappeared. Chris at Intense was telling me a little bit ago some guys are running turbos on the 3.6 v6 Camaro and putting down about 550 HP. GM could probably get close to 400HP easy from the factory then. But I'm hoping GM comes out with a direct injected V8. First it was the Soltice 4cyl, then the 3.6 v6 in the CTS, now it should be the V8. There's talk of it when you google "generation v v8 gm" or "direct injection v8 gm", but couldn't find anything official. This is the most recent article I could find: GM's new high-tech direct-injection V8 set to supersede Gen IV used in Commodore - Cheers & Gears Forums Hopefully they'll decide to bring one of these cars or makes back when they bring out one of these engines. Kind of like how Toyota introduced Scion. There was only like 2 or 3 cars only at first, but it developed from there.

Basically the deal is...from what I've heard though the grapevine is the 5th generation V8...which is the LS3 now, will be de-stroked from 6.2 liter to 5.5...be all aluminum, DOHC, with variable valve timing, cam phasing, active fuel managaement (or cylinder deactivation), and direct injection....It is rumored to make more power than the current LS3, achieve better fuel economy/less of a carbon footprint, and apply to all these stupid CAFE standards that are coming in 2016.

So basically...Ford beat GM to the punch with their Coyote.

That would be sweet. Was wondering why the Camaro with auto had the active fuel management and the manual didn't. Made me wonder why they didn't use all the technologies on one motor. And guess that's how Ford came up with all that power suddenly with their V6 and V8 Mustangs.

I'd love to see GM bring Pontiac back as much as I'd like to see Dodge make a 2 door Charger again, but let's face facts here... I don't think it will happen.
