I say do away with both and use a rep system.
Rep is neutral, it can be used to say "Thanks for this" "I like this" or something else. Thanks and Like are too specific...

Im pretty sure just about everyone hates this and that we are obuseing it to prove a point.

And now everytime I click to view any page on this site, it asked me to download some file that has nuthing in it and brings up the notepad with jumbled words.
