sounds like the polarity on your LEDs is backwards... haha only thing i can think of.

hey, not sure if anyone said this yet, but ... to make soldering easier, instead of cutting every pin to the lcd, just put the tip of the solder iron either on the ends where it sticks our from the board to melt the solder, or if you are careful u can put it right onto the solder. when the solder melts you can just pull the pins right through the board. when you are done u can just stick the pins back through the board and then re solder. just be careful not to solder two spots together

I thought about that but since they are all mounted to the glass you would have to have them all heated up at the same time which is basically impossible, or bend them out one at a time which doesn't sound fun either. You could get some braided desoldering wire and try that but I've never had good luck with that stuff either so cutting was IMO the best. Also its pretty easy to solder them back together too...

I didn't change the color. But I did put the 4-pin red LEDs. AWESOME! It now matches the color of the dash lights. Is this worth your time? Definitely! A million thank to Kerjoss for the hi-res pics and great how-to!

Also, it you want to desolder the LCD without cutting the pins, just buy a solder sucker iron. Sure you have to buy another iron, but if you're that worried about it's worth the cost.

ps... This was my FIRST attempt at soldering lol,, bad time to try it, but I eventually got it all back together.. worth the effort.

The B8's from super bright leds look like they would be the right size.

I thought about doing that too but couldn't tell where the color was on the layers of the button and didn't wanna jack it up. That's why I just put the red LED's in so it was a real deep true red at least and not that cheesy orange color that they have stock. I'm planning on buying those twist in style LED's for my dash cluster and maybe doing my buttons and stuff eventually after I get my motor built...

Has anyone tried the 12v leds from superbrightled? they are supposed to directly replace the PC119 or PC74 DIC bulbs. I didnt use enough resistance and burnt my leds out i figured using these i wouldnt need resistors

You can just order those twist in kind if you dont wanna mess with the led's and soldering... But theres a calc and some part numbers further back in the post.

Other than the DIC, where else are the PC74's used? Trying to figure out how many to order. My 97 DIC needs 6, directional and hi-beam indicators 3. Am I missing any?
