Hi my name is Cliff, I am looking at purchasing a used 2005-2008 Gxp with in a few months, and I have some audio questions. I am new to this forum, I did try the search and found SOME answers to my questions.
The type of music I mostly listen to is more Marilyn Manson and the like.
I will be most likely be retaing the stock Head unit. (6 disc-Monsoon)
    My qustions are:
    1. If I replace the door and deck speakers with standard 4 ohm speakers will the amp be ok, will it be enough?
    2. I will want to ad a subwoofer and am considering a powered sub, can i just use a LOC at the rear speakers?
    3. If I add a powered sub what size, given the type of music, 10";12" will one be enough?
    4. Is any one already tired of the new guy asking all these questions on his first post?
    Thanks in advance.

Hey Cliffy I'll see if I can help you out

The type of music I mostly listen to is more Marilyn Manson and the like.
I will be most likely be retaing the stock Head unit. (6 disc-Monsoon)
    My questions are:

    1. If I replace the door and deck speakers with standard 4 ohm speakers will the amp be ok, will it be enough? this is kind of a hard question to answer. that amp doesn't put out a ton of power but it could "run" just about anything. my first question before I go into detail with that im going to ask why. sooooo why do you want to??

    2. I will want to ad a sub woofer and am considering a powered sub, can i just use a LOC at the rear speakers? you can use a line output converter but find a good one because the last one that I installed I hated because it turned out not sounding that good but that one is just my 2 cents. you could do if you really want to

    3. If I add a powered sub what size, given the type of music, 10";12" will one be enough? this again has a ton of variables do you just want a little bump? do you want a huge box in your trunk? with this and the LOC are you any good at wiring? what do you plan on spending? things like this are good to explain so we can help you more.

    4. Is any one already tired of the new guy asking all these questions on his first post? I'm not tired of this yet but we need more details. I'm patient but some wont be so just be prepared for that. there all great people but alot of them are blunt when they say something so just don't take to personally. PS use spell check. im a terrible speller but you have things that spell check is catching as I'm replying to this. that will help them not jump down your throat
    Thanks in advance.

Wow thanks, for the quick reply,
1-I want it loud, yes, but it has to be clear, I will not accept muddy, I'm picky
2-The old ya get what you pay for, got it.
3-I want nice tight bass, i don't to rattle the trunk or my neighbors windows, clear, tight bass. don't mind a large box, but would rather not too big. I would call myself average to above average when it comes to wiring, either solder or shrink but connectors, I work at a Cadillac dealership so I have a good amount of automotive wiring knowledge ( I just cannot spell) I am not intimidated by it though.
4-good, I welcome blunt, I do not beat around the bush, I have been told more than once that I too am too blunt, so It's all good. Again thanks for the quick reply.

ok here are a few things.(sry i didnt reply right away after i read ur second post I had to go deal with my GF not being able to find her passport. tokk me about 20 min to find it).

    ok so
    1.what year is your car?

    2. why do you want to keep the stock cd player.

    3. if you get an aftermarket cd player you will be happier. thats a fact. if you want a tight clean sound to listen to that metal music or whatever you want to call it that he does I just dont think you will be able to do that with a stock setup.

    4. do you have blown speakers? is that why you want to replace them? im a little confused here.

    5. If you are trying to retain a stock appearance or just functionality I can help you with that to we just need to decide what you need for a system to be happy does that make sense?

let me know man I'm here to help.

The amp shouldn't be an issue. Majority of listeners don't pull that much power when they're "rocking out" Music vs. Sine wave is nowhere near the same current draw. The difference can be as much as 30amps(music) vs. 80amps(sine wave). If it craps out on you...invest

You can use a LOC. You can also grab an amp with line level inputs. I don't recommend either. Most people don't notice distortion in their subs until it surpasses 20%

Subwoofer performance is not relative to size. It's relative to design. However, displacement is king when it comes to efficiency.

    3) Lulz. your stock speakers will crap out FAR before any decent 10 or 12 will so I'd say that should be good for you.

As for what rob said, displacement is key below say 40-50 Hz, above that, high sensitivity is the way to go.
