when the Chicago guys were up here this past year, or when the Jainesville gys came down...they had seriously prepped the roads. It all depends on how long you are willing to prep the road for a race.

last year it had taken up to 30min... but boy oh boy...did they launch. Stock Bottom End(9sec camaro) was able to pull the front tires off for a lil ways down the road.

Hell yeah! I remember those weekends around here! Fun! I can remember staying out past 3:00am some nights. Theres still a group locally that street races once in a while. They've hand a big rival with DFW guys and there cars have appeared on some street racing videos. They race here and there.

Everyone does little things at the track to prep. Hell, if you want to go that way, removing the headlight is ricerish. Laptops for tuning is ricerish since tuner is the new ricer term. We are all ricers.

I agree, its your choice on what you do, some of us prefer not too. As for laptops being ricerish, I never said that. I use mine to scan my car. Any guys with a fast FI (LS1, etc) uses them too or scan some sort of way. Its just how it is nowadays. Back in the old days with Carbs and distributors you tuned by hearing, plugs, etc. Tuning is alot easier now thanks to car intergrated with computer systems. Hell even for older rides, widebands go a long ways for everything. If I ever do up a carbed car, I'll have all the help I can get!

I could care less what my car runs on the street, the street isn't for racing. Since my cutlass is setup for drag racing and I can't gun it off the line on the street does that make it a ricer? (it has 2 front seats, no headliner, an aluminum dash, no carpet or heater box, only thing in the trunk is the battery and fuel cell)

I never said a race car was a ricer. If thats the case then every car on Pinks is a ricer and everyone at your local track is a ricer. Sounds like your Cutlass ain't a daily driver and probably barely a street car. We are talking about a completely different class of cars and are going off base.

As for racing on the street, sure it don't belong there, but it doesn't happen. I don't do it anymore, but I had my days. Anyone who had a fast car or had a friend with a fast car has street raced before, but thats a whole other subject.

Only statment being made is some of us like to know how our DDs perform on the street so we choose to do no prep, thats a basic summary of whats been said.

I can afford slicks but I'd rather spend something that I'll get the most enjoyment out and use a lot, like a powertuner or headers... When I get to the point that I have done all the modifications I can, then slicks. I don't usually go out much and talk to the racers, mostly ricers imo. I live right next to where they cruise and sit, so I usually get a few people pulling up next to me when going home. Since I don't talk to them much, rumors get around from seeing my times or who knows what that I have a 14.0 second car... I don't like it because other people try guaging how fast their car is compared to mine, or call bs on what i ran. That's why I won't do serious track prep on my car until it is cammed and IC'd.

I agree with you. Hell, i've even said i'll most likely have to cheat and get soem slicks for my setup. I don't get traction now as is and I don't want to go to the track and run 2.3 60 fts.

I don't even know why we are debating this, it's more of a personal preference than anything. I want a street setup until I push the limits of my car with the m90.

    I agree with you 100%!

........ you do realize your Grand Prix is equipped with a 4T65EHD transmission which means your car is a FWD (FRONT WHEEL DRIVE)

Now.... why do we upgrade the FRONT brakes and not the rears if the fronts brakes are'nt the ones that do most of the stopping?

Please, someone correct me if I'm wrong... which I know I'm NOT...but.... if your holding the FOOT brake down what is that doing? I'm pretty sure the harder you hold the FOOT brake down the harder your FRONT BRAKES ON YOUR FRONT WHEEL DRIVE are going to try and keep your FRONT WHEELS ON YOUR FRONT WHEEL DRIVE from spinning?

Am I right? Right? Yes? I know.

    Holy f**king crap.

man that is what i was thinking...but i just let it go...in all cars front brakes allways have the majority of the stopping power because that it where the most wieght is (the engine)....

guys, lets tone it down a bit. we are all here to learn.

as Fish said....we all have our own ways of going to the track. its personal preference...

as far as the braking...think he was implying:

he does a burnout with the E-brake, then when he stages...he brake torques it. one foot on the gas, one on the normal brake pedal......
