when i'm lookin, i try to find the best deal on the newest car i can find, in my price range. maybe that's flawed, maybe not. obviously if someone showed me a 98 in pristine conditon, and a 2000 that was beat on, i'd take the 98. 99-02's are gonna be the most popular ones out there, and they are pretty similar as far as mechanicals go.
I agree, get the best car in your price range. Its ok to get an older car that was better cared for. I bought my 99 GTP with 71k on it for 5500 almost 2 years ago.

Welcome! Good to see more Wisconsin GPers!!

As far as what year, I prefer the 99 and 00 model years the most. They have changes from the 97/98 that I wanted and don't have the changes I dislike on the 01+ models. I've owned four 97-99s and might be getting another to replace my Comp G. No real problems with any of them. Good luck on your search. I'll let you know if I see any good deals in the area.

My current 99 GTP has 26,000 miles. My old 97 had 175,000+ miles when I sold it and no unreasonable issues.

Thank you everyone for the helpful input and experiences. I only have about $4500 to spend and I really want a 99+ GTP. Unfortunatley, most of them I'm finding have about 130k miles on them. I know that is relatively high, but not for these motors, but still with a car with that miles what should I look/listen for, or should I just rely on receipts?

Also, I understand its pretty important to change the supercharger oil once a year, so is there a way to check if the car has had that maintenance besides receipts? IE- anything to look for or listen to under the hood.

Sorry for all these questions - It's just I really like to research and hear about actual consumer's experiences with the vehicles so I know what to look for before purchasing one! I never used to research and had a pretty bad experience - so now I always do!

    Thanks everyone so far!

Welcome to GPF! Like others have said, the 99+ GTP's are great if you want the SC at a decent price. Good deals are out there if you are patient and look. I picked up my 2000 GTP coupe July of 06 with 23K for $11,700.

Best of luck with the car purchase!

Deals are out there. The stock SC is suppose to be serviced at 90k. Mine has 110K and running fine. I am waiting because I plan on a ported SC to replace it when it goes. You can hear when a SC is going. A test drive will let you know a lot.
As for the miles do what I did. I bought mine and was the 2nd owner. The previous owner was a woman in her 30s, so I assume the car wasnt beat on. It had a dealership oilchange/service reminder sticker on the windshiled which told me she had it serviced as recomended, plus carfax came back clean.
Like I said I bought my 99 GTP almost 2 years ago for less than 6k.

Alright - well ill continue to look around and be patient for a deal. I've seen a few around, but they all have really high mileage.

What do you recommend a good mileage to buy these cars at?

Also - I know that my turbo eclipse would warm up real fast in winter... do superchargers work the same way and heat up quickly?

    Thanks again.
