Jay..I apologize man. Whole heartedly, your question was if the spring could be reused and the answer to the question is that I would reuse that spring. The spring itself apears to be perfectly good.

As for reusing a HG, I would never suggest doing so.

As for not hearing or feeling it, I truly can not believe that you could not tell by how it was running. Dude it was running on 5 cylinders based on the picture of the spark plug.
No need to..when in doubt blame tyler lmao!!!!

Jay, I was browsing pictures and came across these that might interest you.

These are the types of pics (typical) that led us to think your piston was hosed.

A slightly beat up cylinder head

The piston (or lack of) that was under it.

No worries though..the piston was located

I'd still like to see a picture of that piston. Just out of curiosity.

Damn dude, sucks to be told stuff is what it isn't. Sorry to hear that.

If you go forward on heads in the future, i had found this tidbit that most don't appear to notice. Our heads, even after being "setup properly" by vendors typically aren't 100% correct. We use LS springs that require an install height of 1.800", modded retainers only give us 1.78X" ....therefore the spring seats should be machined to ensure all aspects (spring height to specs of springs being used, valve guide machined to accomodate expected lift plus seal plus a little insurance space) are good. I think I got lucky that I wanted the shop to check stuff and they noticed the seats.

Funni thing is when i brought the heads to the shop.. The machine laughed and said no way in hell those are cleared for over 600. Lift by just looking at them .. Showed me some heads he just finished porting (aluminium by the way).... And made me wish i had never grabbed the heads i had smh..they are ported... he spoke but not to the intent to compliment the cam after i showed him the cam specs..

I would want to see a measurement before discounting the actual lift possible.

FWIW these were measured well north of 620 lift

Just when I was about to loose faith LOL....... Sounds like you did a good job getting down to what caused it to go KABOOM. Hmm wonder if those heads were to blame for the other destroyed engines?

Good to head things are going back together and no matter what Im still jealous of all you bastards at home that get to actually work on their cars while Im overseas! FML!

Edit I believe that setup is S1X cam with 1.8 rockers.
