It's an XP cam I picked up used a few months ago. I just noticed it yesterday when I went to install it in the motor.
Same lobe, both sides.

If I didnt care alot maybe.
But the lifter is just going to make it worse and sometimes the lifter will get the same indents and start to chew it up more.
And other times the lifter still is perfect looking but the cam is chew up more. Comp cams are pretty famous for lobes doing that.
Well I really don't care. This is going in the budget POS i have and I'm not too concerned with it. A friend of my mine is trying to find some Low mileage LS7 lifters I can throw in. I was going to run the 180k stock L36 lifters.
I already put the cam in. Half the motor isn't together so if I have to pull it out it wouldn't matter much.
Crazy that cam has been circulating the forum for a while...im surprised i haven't seen the other one....unless that is reptiles cam..lol.
I did hit it with a fine fiber disc (you can sorta see it in the picture) and there are no sharp edges or what not.
I wouldn't run it if someone came and installed it for me.
Jeff
I hear they make nice lamps![]()
what caused it in the first place? I'd probably polish it out until it was smooth and barely visible
Just asking the question leads to knowing the answer already. You are just looking for validation to refute what you already know...
NO!
I do like the lamp idea.
Jeff
Look at all these negative nancy's in here.
Run it anyway, you already said it don't matter to much to you. I'd run it if I didn't care about it.
To answer mguzzo guy, it's a comp cam plain and simple. They are known for bad blanks, poor quality materials.
I would say almost bi-weeky is someone on a LS1tech or some other performance based car or truck board coming forward with another failed camshaft. Lobes beat to pulp but the lifters are still mint looking or both are in poor shape but were new parts installed at the same time.
I've heard of people sending their Cams back to Comp and they repair them. Think they would even take this one back and attempt to fix it? Can they fix it?
Please re read post #5 LOL
What else are you going to do?
run a stock cam? that sucks.
return it to comp for refurb? that sucks costs money.
buy another cam? that sucks costs money.
That cam lobe isn't wiped its not flattened. Smooth it out and with some emery and run it........ Those scratches don't look like it would even catch a fingernail much.
To all that say they wouldn't run it. = Puss my money is something else fails anyways like all Wbodies like a trans issue or something else. HAHA
Rule #1 of owning a modded car. THY SHALL FIX OWN SH!T.....
Well I have talked to the owner and he said he didn't even notice it when he sold it. He will issue me a refund. I was just planning on putting the motor in this weekend and if I send it back to him I need to find another cam to throw in.
It doesn't catch my finger nail. 50% wants me to say F it and run it.. the other 50% says replace it. It's not going in my daily driver so if it blows I'm not that worried.
